walkers walk… but runners fly

Fall Back Sunday Recap

Hey there! How’s NaBloPoMo going so far? Yesterday afternoon I noticed a had a typo in the title of my blog post. Seriously? It’s only November 2nd and I’m already totally losing it. Anyway, onward!

I love the day we turn the clocks back. However, my apologies to everyone with young children. I remember ranting and raving about the time change when my own kids were young, but now that I’m past that phase, I’m singing a different tune.

I got up at 5:00 this morning (which FELT LIKE 6) and drove to my favorite trail. Because of the time change, I was able to get there and start running early.

This trail is in a beautiful natural area. The weather was gorgeous, and I ran 15 miles.

Done! Tired and happy.

I drank a protein shake on the way home but didn’t eat anything else, so by noon I was SUPER HUNGRY for our fall charcuterie board!

Now… the day before, my husband went grocery shopping and I told him to get some vegan cheese for the board. This is what he got:

Parmesan??? When I questioned it, he tried to convince me that people put that on a cheese board all the time. Um… okay. I also told him to get some vegan cold cuts, and he got this:

Bacon?

Anyway, it was all delicious (the parmesan was a little dry and crumbly, but had a good flavor). I remember a while ago Elisabeth asked what people like on a charcuterie board- OLIVES AND NUTS for me! Yum.

Then I relaxed on the couch reading blogs and watching football. The Dolphins lost on Thursday, so we already got that over with- I just half-watched whatever games came on.

And, I drifted off to sleep for a while.

Later in the afternoon I had to drive my daughter to the gym, clean up from lunch, and do a load of laundry. Then, dinner! I used the leftovers to make myself a veggie bacon cheeseburger (NOT with the parmesan!)

With an icy cold Coke Zero!!!

Now I’m settling down for more blog reading, and I’ll finish my book, finally!

It was my favorite kind of Sunday- a perfect day to have an extra hour.

Would you put parmesan cheese and bacon on a charcuterie board?

Did you have a nice “fall back” weekend?

  1. I’m laughing (with you) about your misspelled word on day 2. good news, we’re all so busy I doubt anyone noticed.

I need to give my husband exact names of things or I’ll get something that isn’t quite right. I enjoy chart. boards, but I’ve not made one (and I can’t spell one), I don’t think I’d lead with bacon or parmesan. A for effort.

I did a lot today. I’m flying to Tampa tomorrow, so I decided to make chili in a crockpot so that Coach can turn it on and have a dinner ready on Tuesday. Curly is playing in sectional semi finals (I think that’s what it’s called), and I will land after her game. Darn it. but at least dinner will be done. I also got stuff organized for my Amvets pick up. Plus I ran and did strength. Not 15 miles, mind you.

  2. I’ve never tried vegan parmesan, does it taste like it?
I love your sunday routine especially the run that left you tired and happy.

    1. I think so… I haven’t eaten “real” parmesan in so long, I’m not really sure. I’d have to get an omnivore to compare them if I wanted to know for sure.

  3. I like Parmesan but wouldn’t put it on a cheese board. Nor would I put bacon but I am not a huge fan of bacon. It’s fine but not something I seek out!

The time change went really well for the kids. They slept until close to their normal times and today I had to wake both of them up. I did not fare so well and only got 5 hours of sleep which is not enough for me. Will ended up staying home with me yesterday and I let him have extra screen time and we watched a movie too because I was kind of dizzy with exhaustion, plus I have a really painful flare. It was not a great day. 🙁 BUT the Vikings won and our QB JJ looked great!! So it wasn’t all bad! I am glad you had a great day and are enjoying more light in the morning!

    1. Glad the kids did well, but UGH- that sounds so hard, Lisa. I’m hoping there’s a solution to this and you can get some rest soon.

  4. Your charcuterie board looks nice! I don’t like vegan “meats” and the cheeses are so hit and miss for me. That said, I do like a cashew based “cheese” sometimes, but I haven’t found a place here that sells anything decent.

    1. That cashew cheese was my favorite! Really flavorful and tangy. I don’t think I’ve ever had goat cheese in my life, so I can’t vouch for the authenticity- but it tasted good. We also had good old hummus- you would have liked that part!

  5. I don’t think I’d put vegan Parmesan on a charcuterie board but I do like that Treeline brand cheese! The bacon also looks good but yeah, a little weird for a charcuterie board. I’m also a huge fan of olives and nuts!

I finally got groceries after being out of town the past two weekends and found lots of fun things at Trader Joe’s, including the fall leaf chips and the Thanksgiving stuffing popcorn!

    1. I LOVE those fall leaf chips! We had the pumpkin chips on our board, which are good- but I think the fall leaf chips are better.

  6. Parmesan yes, bacon no. With that said, I wouldn’t hate having bacon on a charcuterie board. Your looks like a good spread! I would also have put a dent in the veggie burger.

It sounds like it was a good Sunday all around!

    1. At least the bacon was “ready to eat” so I didn’t have to cook it. Honestly, I’m not sure how much it really tasted like bacon- but it was good, especially on the burger.

  7. We had charcuterie for lunch yesterday and it was literally me looking in the fridge and saying: what can I toss on a board??? There were olives, but no nuts. And some cheese, grapes, pepperoni, hummus, rye crackers, smoked oysters, celery, and popcorn. It was…an eclectic mix, but it got the job done (people ate) and it helped clear out the dregs of things in the fridge!
It’s embarrassing how many typos I spot if I re-read my posts. Oh well. There aren’t enough hours in the day to be overly careful about my proofreading!

  8. I love parmesan! Have never seen it on a board but you know what, I’d probably dig it! I love buying the big parmesan flakes in a container and randomly eating a few bits here and there throughout the week when I open the fridge, haha. Sounds like such a great Sunday! I also am generally a fan of the fall back when we get that extra hour!! For someone who always kind of feels like I don’t have enough time, getting an ‘extra’ hour feels like a treat. 😉

    1. Well, you would like being at my house right now- I have a big chunk of that parmesan sitting in the fridge. I guess we better start nibbling at it before it goes bad.
An extra hour is never a bad thing- unless you have little kids. Then it’s an extra hour in a day that already feels long. Luckily we’re both past that stage!

  9. Do your cats not get a bit annoying with the time change? My girls normally get fed at 6pm, but Zelda started screaming for food at 4:30. I am over the time change. Just pick a time and stay with it, I say. So does Zelda.

    1. Shockingly, the cate have been FINE. After all the trouble with Muffin and Foxy at first, now they get along well and for whatever reason, don’t bother us much during the night. Before Foxy came, Muffin would meow randomly throughout the night, and then yes, she wouldn’t let us sleep in when we turned the clocks back. This has been really smooth.

  10. I will defend your husband, haha! I think it sounds good (like with apples, pears, olives, etc) – that nice salty taste! I guess the texture isn’t perfect but maybe there are different parm types – plus since it was vegan it wasn’t actually true parm anyway 🙂 the whole board looks awesome!!

  11. In your husband’s defense, I love some slices or chunks of a salty parm on a charcuterie board! So good with fig jam! I love the time change for you and how you ran with it (haha!), but I have to admit I am struggling as it’s getting dark in the 3pm hour here.

    1. Ack- 3 pm??? That’s pretty brutal. And now you’re the second one who votes for parmesan on a cheese board, so, okay! We’ll go with it.

  12. I LOVE falling back (I do remember loving it less when my kids were little). This year I felt kind of directionless all day, but I tried to revel in the “you have time and space today” aspect of that. I really try to go to bed earlier in November when my body things it’s a little later than it is, and can be tricked into falling asleep before midnight without sleep aids.

    1. Well- I was able to kind of mold most of my day the way I wanted it, since my daughter is in a phase where she doesn’t need much from me. It is a little harder when you have kids- even when they are older. Yes to embracing “time and space”- it’s a good day to appreciate that.

  13. Whether is forward or back the time change always destroys me. That is one fantastic Charcuterie board, now I’m hungry. I’m visiting from the NaBloPoMo participant list.

  14. I will put pretty much anything on a charcuterie board (olives only for other people). I haaaate the time change, although the fall one is preferable to the spring I guess. I just feel wonky for so long afterwards. Your Sunday sounds lovely, though, and mine was too until I couldn’t stay awake quite early in the evening and I felt like a zombie at work today. I prefer more light in the evening than in the morning, but I understand why others feel differently,
I LOVED Ninth House! Hope you like it!

    1. Yes, I finished it and it was SO good! Sorry to hear the time change threw you off- the spring one definitely does not agree with me.

  15. I love a good charcuterie lunch – I usually do that every few months as my lunch option when I get tired of my usual food.

And even better – a Sunday where we didn’t have to watch the Dolphins lose. Hooray!

The fall back time change isn’t my favorite, but it is nice how much easier it is to wake up since my internal clock thinks everything is an hour later!

  16. That photo of all the pumpkins is so satisfying!

Way to go using the extra hour to get a glorious trail run in. 15 miles! I haven’t run more than 8 in a while! This year has just been so crazy.
I think I can get on board with a lunch or dinner charcuterie board. I don’t need a cooked meal LOL
