It’s time for Tuesday Topics, which I host with Jenn from Runs With Pugs. This week I’m going off-topic and joining Elisabeth in her FIG Collective. FIG= Finding Joy in Gratitude, and Elisabeth (and her trusty band of bloggers) are looking for FIGs throughout the month of February. I’ve got some!!!
First of all- if anyone needs an infusion of joy, I’ll arrange to have a kitten sent to you ASAP! Sylvie is just the cutest thing, and we’re constantly laughing at her antics.

Here I was, watching the livestream of my son’s concert with my little friend.

Muffin is slowly but surely coming around. She and Sylvie don’t interact much, but they tolerate each other.

Another FIG has been our weather. I know- I complained a bit about our “cold” spell, but we still have the best weather in the country right now. That is NOT true for most of the year, so during these couple months I make sure to appreciate it.

The Super Bowl! We didn’t go all out this year like we sometimes do, but we still made nachos for the big game:

… and we were rooting for the Seahawks! I still say the Super Bowl should be moved to Saturday (OR make Super Bowl Monday a holiday) because it’s hard to feel festive on a Sunday night. We did our best, but by the fourth quarter I was scooping the litterbox, putting laundry in the dryer, and getting dishes in the dishwasher. Once it was clear the Seahawks were going to win, I brushed my teeth and got into bed. That alarm goes off early on Monday morning!
How about the Olympics? I love that there’s something to look forward to every night. On the Girl Next Door podcast, Kelsey said that she likes the winter Olympics more than summer because of the scenery. It’s true- the scenery for the summer games is a track, swimming pool, or gymnastics arena. It’s fun to see mountains and snow!
One last thing, and it might seem silly to consider this a FIG…

I love the green cups! The white cups look SO blah after Christmas, so I was delighted to see green cups at Starbucks today. Little things can bring joy, too!
Next week’s topic: What habit(s) are you trying to strengthen right now?

Sylvie is sooo cute! I love seeing them play with her.
I haven’t had a Starbucks for ages! this pic brings me nostalgia. It’s not even the coffee that I miss, the feeling of holding the cup. I like their chai tea with milk more than coffee.
Their chai tea lattes are amazing. I used to get those. My son loves the chai tea latte with oatmilk and a shot of espresso.
Sylvie is just perfect. Thr name suits her so well- feminine, elegant, a touch sassy! Glad they’re getting along!
She’s definitely sassy! But also perfect : )
Sylvie is such a cutie! Hopefully Muffin will want to play with her at some point.
Our weather is very similar here! My only complaint is at work they decided to turn the heat on for some reason when it was 82 degrees outside yesterday. It’s so uncomfortable having to work in a hot office and I never know how to dress because last week, they were blasting the A/C!
Yes, I think areas like ours don’t know what to do in the winter. In the summer it’s AC all the time, but when it gets cold out people are confused. I don’t know what was going on last week, but one day it was SO COLD where I work! I mean it was cold outside but did we have the AC on as well? I couldn’t figure it out. We can’t really wear long sleeves while giving a massage- a lot of the therapists were wearing hats though to stay warm.
OMG how long was I gone? You have a new kitten! Wow do I feel out of the loop! Congratulations!
We were on a plane during the Super Bowl – my husband a) didn’t realize it when he booked our flights else this would have never happened, b) his team is the Patriots and never in a million years did he think they would make the playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl, c) he was able to get wifi on the flight so he updated the scores and received 10000000 texts from my son Jake who was watching and updating him. Is there a d)? I don’t know, Jenny, I am a bit jetlagged still, so this may or may not make sense. Well, most of my comments may or may not make sense and I don’t usually have jetlag. TIME GOES BY AND NOTHING CHANGES.
I don’t follow sports generally, nor do I really watch the Olympics, but I do love figure skating and ice dancing. Did you know I figure skated as a child? I love skating and haven’t done it in years. Anyway, the big news in 1988 was that the Olympics were in Calgary and I went to the women’s short program. I still have deep affection for Elizabeth Manley.
You were gone for at least two weeks, because that’s how long we’ve had Sylvie!
If your husband is a Patriots fan, it’s probably better that he was on a plane during the game. It didn’t go well for them.
THAT’S SO COOL, you were at the Olympics!!! I remember when they were in Calgary. The ice skating has been incredible so far.
Yes to the joy that cute furry things bring. I often have a set of big ears between me and the screen. Like Doggo, Sylvie makes a much better door than she does a window, but I have zero complaints.
I don’t follow sports at all so I have no dog in the fight, but yes the day after Superbowl should not be a workday. There are so many world problems that cannot be fixed, but this is not one. Get on it, government!
The nachos look yummy.
Ha ha, yes if we can’t fix anything else, can we just make Super Bowl Monday a national holiday???
I love how they sit between us and the screen. Luckily they’re cute and lovable so we let them do it.
I love the FiG post.
I have a few:
I’m going to Fla. Tomorrow.
It was the worst but I got 10 miles done yesterday.
I’m going to meet up with lots of friends soon.
Yay! You did 10 miles- that must have been hard with your weather.
I’ll see you soon! We have to see if we can do Thursday with Deb! I’ll text you… have a good flight.
Sylvie is going to break the internet, just like Leo/Lenny did/does. I love that she is snuggling in and watching Paul’s concert. TOO CUTE.
I am definitely jealous of your weather right now. It is cold and grey. BUT, I know when summer rolls around I will be delighting in my weather and very thankful I’m not in Florida. Once again, I NEED TO START SNOWBIRDING, JENNY!!!
Yes, Florida is the place to be in January, February, and MAYBE March. Other than that, stay in Canada!!!
We are so lucky on the West Coast that the super bowl is early–it makes it easier to get into the spirit for sure. Honestly, it wasn’t the most exciting game anyway. Love the Sylvie pictures–she really is the cutest and Muffin tolerating her is a huge win!
Yes, the game wasn’t too exciting. But I’m definitely envious that it starts and ends at a reasonable time for you!
Yay for a kitten!
Hot take: The winter Olympics are better in every way. The sports are more interesting to watch. Here me out. Swimming all takes place underwater and all you can see is splashing. Thumb’s down. Running is super impressive, but it’s just people running, which I can see every day by looking out my window. I am uninterested in ball sports, but I guess YMMV on that. Winter, though! The mountains! I never see people ski! Skating is fun to watch! So many flips and things. There aren’t boring ball sports. Woot woot! PLUS, the winter Olympics are in FEBRUARY, which is a lame month when we should all just stay inside anyway. The summer Olympics are in the SUMMER when I need to be OUTSIDE. You can disagree with me, of course, but just so you know, I feel very strongly that my argument is 100% accurate.
Okay, you do make a strong case!!! My sister agrees with you that swimming is super boring- I don’t know why I like it. And I do like watching the running, but I can see why it would seem more interesting to see people skiing and snowboarding. (But what about the gymnastics???) Anyway- I’m defintely enjoying the Winter Olympics. But I don’t want to watch curling.
Send me Sylvie! I will carry her around like a pocket cat and I will love her forever!
I watched so little of the game but I was thrilled the Seahawks won!
Weather is … weathering. It’s icy in the morning and then in the 70s by afternoon. I don’t know what that’s all about but I’m going with it.
I wouldn’t like the icy mornings (it’s only getting down to the 50s here) but I love 70s in the afternoon. We have some 80 degree days coming up though which I’m a little cranky about.
I am trying to strengthen some nutrition habits– I am doing so well in some areas, but the sweets!! Have crept back in. I need to cxreate saome friction around my access to them, I think…
CUTEST kitten 🙂
WHY is it so hard to maintain healthy eating??? It’s like the sweets (and the chips and crackers) are constantly waiting to ambush us. Sigh.
I like your idea about Saturday Superbowl! For me, I am 16 hours ahead, I had to go to the bar at 7 am to watch it! I could have watched at home, but honestly, I find football more of a social thing, and find it a fun thing to do with a group. I thought it was a good game, albeit a bit boring, but of course, I was going for the Hawks, so didn’t mind a bit of boredom in exchange for a win! The kitten is the cutest, and reminds me why I like cats. Too bad they don’t travel well!
Yes, you couldn’t bring a kitten on your travels…
Since you made the effort to get to a bar at 7 am to watch the game, I’m glad your team won! I feel bad for everyone who paid thousands of dollars for their tickets, only to see their team get trampled on.
I’m so glad that your kittens bring you joy!! You sure do have the best weather in the country enjoy that!
I’m determined to enjoy it for the short time that it lasts! Soon enough I’ll be grumbling about the heat.
Kittens are definitely JOY givers! 😀
Such a great list of FIG moments.
Thanks Rebecca! And yes… you can’t be sad with a kitten around.
Forget the Olympics… I could spectate your kittens for hours! They look super energetic!
They are… until they decide to take a long nap. They definitely tire themselves out eventually!
Looks like the kitty was enjoying the concert!
I finding gratitude in an unexpected errand I have to fit into my schedule today because I can also swing by Starbucks and maybe get one of those green cups!
Aww, I can imagine that Sylvie would be brightening up anyone’s day right about now 🙂
I also really like the green Starbucks cups (although I haven’t had one yet).
I usually take the day after the Super Bowl off work, making it my own personal holiday, but I didn’t this year and I definitely regretted that choice! Meh. The Super Bowl was such a snoozefest this year, but I’m happy for the Seahawks.
SYLVIEEEE. What a little stinker. She’s so cute!
