walkers walk… but runners fly

It’s Friday!

It’s Friday, and that means I’m off to Chicago! I’ve given up on hoping the weather will be one way or another, and will just take whatever I get. I would prefer that it not rain TOO much, especially since I’ll only have one pair of shoes (I’d like to not wear wet shoes for three days…) But you know what? For every problem, there’s a solution. I’ll work it out!

Other than the weather, this turns out to be the perfect weekend for my trip. I didn’t realize it when I booked my flight, but my daughter has no school today. This makes life SO much easier for my husband- I do 100% of the kid duty as far as lunch/transportation etc. and it was going to be hard for him to deal with that and get himself to work. One problem solved!

I also didn’t know when I booked my flight that my son has a concert Saturday night, so I’ll get to hear him play! It happens to be Family Weekend at NU, so most people will be going to the football game- I’ll be going to an orchestra concert. I’m sure there will be other “Family Weekend” events going on while I’m browsing in bookstores. Yes- I am the nerdiest nerd in the world.

Speaking of which, I’ve chosen my airport/plane reading material:

It was between this, Leigh Bardugo’s Ninth House or Andrew Weir’s Project Hail Mary. I figured this one would be a fun, easy read, and I’m curious about this series. It’s middle grade, but the writing is interesting (so far) and Meredith (Currently Reading podcast) loves these books.

Luckily I can leave and feel confident that our felines will be fine without me for a couple days!

Just a little playful roughhousing- Muffin actually doesn’t mind it!

What do you have planned for the weekend?

  1. Im so impressed that you’re packing everything in a “personal item.” That is IMPRESSIVE! So glad your daughter didn’t have school and you get to hear your son play! I hope the weather cooperates and that you have a great time! Safe travels!

    1. Thank you Noemi! I made it safely, and even ran- now I have to wear my running shoes all day but that’s okay. It was kind of nice only traveling with a backpack!

    1. i wouldn’t mind a football game- I’ve never been to a college game in person. But- yes I would rather hear my son play!

    1. Yes, the cats are doing great! Foxy is like an annoying little brother to Muffin, but I think she’ll like him better and better as he grows up.

  2. Yay! Your Chicago weekend is here! I think you will have a wonderful time, no matter the weather.

I didn’t realize you haven’t read Ninth House! It is one of my favorite books – I really hope you enjoy it, but am looking forward to your review no matter what, and whenever you get to it!

  3. Even though I am not a fantasy person, I do want to read the Nevermoor books as all the CR gals love them! I am waiting to see if I could read them with Paul. He’s shifted to me reading to him to him reading to me which has been very fun! He is a great reader but was shy about reading out loud but we got him to get over his discomfort.

Have the best time in Chicago! I hope the weather is better than feared and that it doesn’t rain much!! I love that you get to see a concert while you are there. I hope time sloooooows down the minute you land.

    1. I defintely think the Nevermoor series would be good for Paul’s age (if you’re reading to him). I’m liking the book a lot, but, “funny” story which I’ll mention on the blog soon- I accidentally got the SECOND book in the series, ARRRG! There I was, stuck on the flight with only that book so I had to read it. I’m really annoyed- now am I going to go back and read the first one??? Sigh…

  4. Enjoy Chicago! Very cool that you will get to see a concert.

Too bad I’m just missing you as I’m heading there Tuesday although I know in reality we would not have been able to meet up anyway. 😉

  5. I hope you have such a wonderful time, Jenny! I know you’ll make the most of your time, regardless of the weather.

This weekend is a bit busier than I’d like (hosting a sleepover for Indy at our house, Belle has a birthday party to attend, and John leaves Sunday for Europe), but I’m going to try HARD to carve out some solo, quiet time. Fingers crossed.

I am so hopelessly behind on books right now, so I’m also hoping to get some book reading in as well!

    1. That does sound like a busy weekend! Well… I hope you get some quiet reading time in. I’m sitting here with my sister right now talking about you- she reads your blog too!

  6. a run of course followed by brunch.

It’s my college reunion weekend but I don’t plan on the official events since I live near the college I went to… but plan to hang out with 2 close college friends.

There’s also a breast cancer awareness walk on Sunday.

  7. Fri-yay! Have a great trip, and enjoy every minute of the weekend.

Yay that Muffin and Foxy are getting along! Doggo and our neighbor’s dog love to roughhouse. Their signature move is to charge at each other and then one dog will duck and the other dog will leap just before the collision point. I have no idea how they coordinate their moves, but it’s a delight to watch.

I’ve been talking about this for ever, but I am bound and determined to get out to Mohican State Park this weekend and start my hiking binge! The time got away from my last weekend but this time it’s going to happen!

    1. Ha, that’s funny- it’s almost like the dogs moves are choreographed.
I hope you get to hike, and I hope we get to see photos of it- it’s probably beautiful this time of year.

  8. Enjoy your trip and time with your son! I’ll think dry, sunny thoughts for you this weekend!

I have a three day weekend because I took today as sick leave for a medical appointment — my gynecologist is in the city my parents are in, I really like the office so I didn’t want to change when I moved and the appointment is once a year so it’s easy enough to work around. The appointment was quick and easy this morning so then I headed out for a midday run and it was SO NICE to be able to run at noon and not melt! Tomorrow I’m hoping to do a longer run and then just relax the rest of the weekend.

    1. That sounds nice! It must be cooler there if you’re running midday. So far no rain, here, which is good because we have a lot going on today.
      Enjoy our long run!

  9. Wishing you DRY SHOES for your weekend, I hope you have a wonderful time and enjoy your time with your son. Glad things worked out for your husband and daughter too, and YAY that the cats are adjusting!

  10. Oh so nice that your cats are getting along! Did you do anything to help the process? Ours are still not ready to be at the same room without cookie attacking.
    Enjoy your Chicago trip.

    1. We really didn’t do anything to help other than wait. We tried to keep them separated but it was really hard… I guess Muffin just finally gave up and accepted the fact that she has a little brother now.
