Yes, I HAVE ordered this mug- it should arrive any day now and I’ll be drinking out of it for the rest of the month! Three weeks from today I’ll be in Valparaiso, setting things up and getting ready for the rehearsal dinner. The wedding is on the 25th, and from now on all I’ll be thinking is “blah blah blah WEDDING blah blah WEDDING blah WEDDING WEDDING WEDDING!”
Recently I complained that I felt I should be doing more, but that has changed. I talked to my son, who has snapped into “wedding mode.” We need e-vites for the rehearsal dinner! Do we have a head count for that? Has the Airbnb been rented for the groomsmen? Who is picking up his best man from the airport? Etc. etc. I love it. FINALLY, things for me to do!
In other news… huh. Do I have any other news? Sylvie is all recovered from her surgery. She’s getting BIG!

I’m reading a great book:

If we were having coffee together, I would ask what you’re doing for the holiday. Right now we have no plans! My daughter will be with her boyfriend and his family. I have Saturday and Sunday off- I’ll probably run, go to the gym, read, nap… if we want to see fireworks, all we have to do is look out the window- everyone in our neighborhood will be shooting them off.
I’m linking up with Coco and Deborah for their Ultimate Coffee Date!
What would you tell me over coffee?

Oh, wedding month! How exciting! Weddings can be so stressful though. But good that you got something to do!
I like your plan of celebrating 4th of July with naps, runs and gym. I’m Swedish living in Ireland but I may end up in a full-on 4th of July celebration, because one of the owners of the pub we’re playing in is American and they have some celebration there, it might even be too crowded for us to play but we’re still going there to see how the situation is. Our music would fit perfectly for the occasion. I’d need a full weekend of rest and relax but we have tons of music stuff going on.
You might celebrate the 4th of July more than me, which would be ironic.
I don’t think any of the stress of this wedding will fall on me- at least, not yet. We’ll see what happens when I get to Indiana!
Yay for wedding month! LOL, I am sure there are a lot of little things to do. Maybe it’s a good idea to rest up this weekend. 😉
I’m going to have to check out that book. I’m about to DNS my current read.
We plan to hide from the local fireworks and hope they aren’t too loud for Scooby!
Oh, poor Scooby! Our cats don’t like the fireworks, but I know it’s even worse for dogs.
This book is good if you like sci fi. But it’s not too out there- it’s near-future, which is the kind of sci fi I like best. And it’s a mystery! I’ll report back when I’ve finished it.
There are definitely a million Little things to do for a wedding! It feels good to be needed and be able to help. Can’t wait to hear more about the big day. Do you have your dress? Happy wedding month!
Yes! I have my dress and shoes. There are still some other items I need, so I have a little shopping to do.
Yay for wedding month! So exciting! Looking forward to hearing all about the big day.
Enjoy your time off this weekend!
Thank you Michelle! Don’t worry- everyone will be hearing LOTS about this wedding.
SYLVIE AND FOXY. They are perfection.
SO EXCITING!! I’m glad your son has been giving you tasks. That will make the time go by faster.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you glad I am that my work insanity is over and that July is slow and contemplative at work. BUT. I am so upset about the fireworks situation. My neighbors have been shooting them off ALREADY and the dog is so freaked out. We’re literally having to DRAG her on walks because she’s scared of them even in the daylight. This is going to continue for months, especially since it’s supposed to be rainy this weekend, so a lot of people will have purchased fireworks and won’t be able to set them off. I HATE IT FOR MY DOG. And then I would drink my coffee and pretend I’m okay.
Oh, poor Hannah!!! Yes, fireworks have started here as well. The cats are definitely worried, but I know dogs are much, much worse with fireworks. Especially Hannah- she’s sensitive!
Jenny, I am so excited for you to have such a momentous occassion to anticipate and plan toward. Hooray! Weddings are such a delight, and I know you and Paul are close which makes it extra special as his mama.
Can I just say, I WISH I could beam you here for coffee. I would love to meet in person and that would be such a delight. We’re having a heat wave, but you wouldn’t even complain because it’s still probably cooler than Florida.
Over coffee. It’s been a tough week. So much hard stuff happening to people we care about. It feels odd to keep doing life things (kids have to get to camp, playdates, and everyone still needs to eat) and living in this bizarre time vortex (I’m not quite sure what to do with myself, though there’s a funeral to attend today and that will bring some closure, in its own way). So I’m very discombobulated by trying to lean into the good things that pop up. I’m so fortunate in so many ways and sitting down to make a list of those really does help when I get stuck in my head.
LOVE THE MUG!!!
Yes, it’s hard that your friends have experienced this tragedy right now. I mean- especially hard for them of course. But hard for you because you’re still getting your bearings after the trip. Yes, beam me up for coffee! Or- obviously we would both drink Earl Grey tea.
It’s wedding time!! They will share a wedding month with Taylor and Travis! (I’m a Taylor super fan!). I am glad Paul is handing off some tasks to you!
If we were having coffee we would certainly talk about books. And then I would show you some pictures from the lake. We got here last night and it was a gorgeous, calm night. This is my happy place!
I know, it’s funny that there are TWO weddings this month- and they are probably polar opposites. Somehow I don’t think Taylor’s relatives were setting up tables and chairs at the reception venue. Oh, and our rehearsal dinner is going to be in Isabel’s parents’ backyard. Bet Taylor and Travis did something a tad more fancy.
Enjoy your weekend at the lake! I’m excited for you. Will Phil be doing his annual swim?
He will do his annual swim when we are back there in August for our week-long vacation. He’s in a swim club in Minneapolis and started swimming last week. He tries to go 2-3 times/week so that he’s properly trained for the long swim at my parents. We think it’s about 2 miles!
And yes, Paul and Isabel’s wedding will be just a *little* bit different. Ha. I think I saw somewhere that they are having Chipotle for their rehearsal dinner – yum! We had a really casual rehearsal dinner at a Polish place close to the church – we served pierogies, cabbage rolls, and sausages. I like it when the rehearsal dinner is a bit more casual and reflective of the foods the couple likes!
Happy wedding month! It must feel so real, I’m guessing. I love that mug – it gives you such a little celebratory moment during the day. I think over coffee we’d talk about how I’m about to have a teenage daughter and everything that comes with that and possibly workouts and gym stories. Honestly, it would be so fun!!
IT WOULD BE FUN! I wouldn’t tell you too many stories about Angie, because it would probably scare you. There are lots of fun things about teenagers though!
WEDDING WEDDING WEDDING WEDDING!!!! I am SO excited for you! Yay wedding month! I love the mug, it’s perfect.
It never ceases to amaze me that people just…set off fireworks. It is so weird. Here, if there are fireworks, it’s a show put on by the city or something. Not just…random people doing it from their homes. It’s such a strange thing. It is very dry here and I think that fireworks would, like, set the city on fire or something. It’s a really bizarre practice! WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN???
GREAT question. I mean, we do have official fireworks set off by the city. And we have been in a drought. Yet, setting off fireworks in front of your house is a big thing. And I don’t mean just little ones- people set off HUGE ones that look like a professional display. I can’t imagine how much it must cost.
Hurrah! Wedding month and a list of useful things to do!
The cats are glorious.
Over a cup of coffee* (actually diet Coke because I do not like coffee) , I would tell you I am now a grandmother! My sweet little EL entered the world almost two weeks early. All is well, and I get to go visit next weekend. My daughter wanted to settle in at home before we descend on her. ( if she was close, I’d be there every day, but it’s about 7 hours away).
So if your head is all “wedding wedding wedding,” mine is all “baby baby baby”.
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!! That is AMAZING!!! When my son was born, we were here in Florida and my parents were in Illinois. They came a few weeks later. I’m sure they were very impatient to meet him, but it was nice to settle in first. I’m so excited for you!
SQUEEE!!!! Wedding!!!!!!!
Sylvie is getting to be a big girl! It’s so fun to go from having a baby to an adult pet. Doggo’s birthday is tomorrow! She’s three!!!!
I’m hanging with friends today and with family tomorrow and looking forward to everything.
Doggo’s birthday is July 4th? That’s cool! As a celebration, she gets to hear fireworks all day (oh. Not cool). Hope she has a fun birthday, at least until the chaos starts.
WEDDING WEDDING WEDDING! SO FUN. Now that you’re close enough and there are things to do, it must feel more real. EXCITING.
I forgot that Taylor Swift is rumored to be getting married today, until I saw Lisa’s comment. Today is our anniversary, so they will have good company.
UGH on the fireworks. So scary for pets. They’re illegal here, and thankfully our neighborhood doesn’t have a big issue with them, but lots of people set them off anyway and the fire risk is REAL. Last year we were driving home from a bbq and people were setting them off over the freeway and it was terrifying. I know my husband wants to go to the same party this year. If we go, we are NOT staying late, I don’t want to go through that again.
I heard that Taylor and Travis did tie the knot, so you guys share an anniversary! We’ll see if they make it 33 years.
Fireworks have begun. The cats are worried, but doing okay so far…
I hope all goes well as you prepare for the wedding! That mug is perfect!
WEDDING MONTH !!!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! so exciting!
i’m “celebrating the holiday” by going Beaver watching hahahaha! there’s none of that here – maybe in Amsterdam where there’s a larger American Expat/immigrant population but i hadn’t seen anything posted about it (TBF haven’t been much online either).
Congratulations on getting to wedding month! So exciting! We are having family friends over for chili and baked potatoes for the fourth. We don’t have any fireworks in our town (for the past couple of years) because of fire danger, so we’ll be going fireworks free (or watching some on TV maybe). My daughter just got bedazzling supplies so we have shirts to bedazzle. Not a whole lot going on here! BTW I deleted my blog. It was just feeling like pressure to post that I didn’t have the mental bandwidth for doing. But, I will continue to read and comment on yours! Looking forward to seeing all the wedding activities!
It’s wedding month – how exciting for you! The next three weeks are going to fly by – enjoy every second!
Awww, Sylvie is a big girl now. 🙂
Happy Independence Day! Hope you’re enjoying every second of your holiday weekend!
This is so exciting! I am not surprised your son finally snapped into wedding mode… it’s soon now! And that mug is perfect 🙂
Hope you had a great holiday…. we just hung out at home and I spent a lot of time in the kitchen making all kinds of treats.
Wedding time! How joyous and wonderful for you.
We are very different people, Jenny. My eldest son got married a couple years ago and I was thrilled to not have to do a single thing! He and his wife planned every little thing (they were 39 and 36), and all I had to do was write them a check and show up. Finding a dress was my big job.
We are spending Independence Day weekend at the lakehouse. It has been lovely, BUT THIS HIDEOUS HEAT! UGH. I’ll actually be glad if it rains every day this coming week. I’ll probably be outside in it, appreciating the coolness.
We (my husband) bought a ton of fireworks, and it was lit last night. Literally. Our whole neighborhood gets in on it, and you really don’t have to go anywhere but your yard or driveway for a decent show.
EEEK! It’s wedding month! I’m so excited! And yes! You should absolutely make the most of that mug! It’s awesome! I’ts all going to be wonderful!
Look at those kitties! So sweet!
Aww, yay! So excited for you and your family! <3 That mug is perfect!! So glad Sylvie is recovering from surgery too!
I was on call for work yesterday but thankfully didn't get called in, so I did a bunch of random life admin stuff, had a craft day with friends, and we went out for a sushi buffet. Hope you had/have a nice/relaxing weekend! :]
How exciting!! Wedding month!! I’m so excited to hear all the details!!
We went to public town fireworks and we were so disappointed. They were LAME and then we were stuck in non-moving traffic for an hour trying to get out of the parking lot. We wouldn’t have seen any fireworks from our home, but the neighborhood fireworks we saw shooting off before the “real” fireworks started were more impressive than what we saw!
