Kitten! And Miami Recap

Welcome to Tuesday Topics, which I host with Jenn from Runs With Pugs. Luckily today’s topic is a free topic, because my mind is all over the place.

First of all, I feel like I don’t even live in the same country as everyone else these days. Yesterday it got up to 90 degrees here. I mean… I know everyone else is suffering from the cold and snow… but 90? In January? What is going on???

Anyway, a lot has happened over the last several days. When I posted about spending the day in Miami, I already knew about the kitten but nothing was definite. The short version of the story is, kitty was found abandoned, the woman who rescued her wanted to keep her but then realized she couldn’t take on the responsibility, so she passed her along to me.

I wish she had a name so I don’t have to keep calling her “kitty!” It’s not clear yet who is going to end up with this kitten. I would love to keep her, but my husband is not on board (although- he might still come around). The other possibility is, my daughter’s boyfriend would like her. They have one cat so they have plenty of room for another! It’s going to be up to his dad though (why are dads so resistant to kittens? Sheesh!) I told my daughter and her boyfriend to come up with a name together, but so far nothing has been decided.

Foxy and the kitten LOVE each other! I was supposed to keep her quarantined until she sees the vet, but it seemed cruel to keep them apart, so…

Suddenly, Foxy looks huge!

Muffin is not as excited. Every time she hears the kitten mewing from behind the door, Muffin looks worried. But, she’s still eating and behaving normally (unless she hears the kitten- then I can tell she’s anxious). She’ll come around! This will all work out just fine.

My day in Miami on Friday was fun! I did not find a mug, unfortunately, so the search continues. I had a run in a nice park on the water…

… and went to a bookstore!

This was a great store with a nice selection, and I bought this:

Seriously. I’m not allowed to buy ANY MORE BOOKS. I think I have eight books, between my Christmas book flood, bookstore adventure with Stephany, and then this one. I have to read these and then start using the library again.

While I didn’t find a mug, I did buy a blanket, which solves the “fa la la” quilt problem (I couldn’t put it away because Foxy loved it so much). Now I have a seasonal blanket to take its place.

I don’t like too much pink and red (I know- I’m a Valentine’s Day scrooge) so navy with hearts is perfect.

Next week’s topic: Self care check: how do you show yourself kindness this month?

Tuesday Topics and FIGS!

It’s time for Tuesday Topics, which I host with Jenn from Runs With Pugs. This week’s topic: What does “springing forward”

  1. Ooh, those photos of Foxy and the new kitten are so precious! And the first one is hilarious – as with all super tiny kittens when they try to look threatening. Since she will be with you for while, can’t you just give her a name?
Enjoy your weather. Today we have storm Chandra with flood warnings.
That looks like such a nice bookshop! Was it you or someone else who talked recently about independent bookshops? If I get to one I always want to buy something. But since a few years back, I HAVE TO resist buying books. I’ve ditched tons of books when we moved here because we have too little space, and more than anything, I should first read the unread books I already have!

    1. Our “working name” for the kitten is Evie. That’s what I gave the vet when I made the appointment. My daughter likes it but her boyfriend will probably change it if he ends up taking her.
i need to stop buying books!!!!! The library works perfectly fine and is free. I love buying them though, especially from Indie stores.

  2. Why ARE dads so resistant to kittens?! I want a second kitten quite badly.

She looks like a Licorice to me!

Your Miami trip sounds fun, great weather, great running views, and a new book! I own that book too but haven’t read it yet. Maybe a buddy read???

    1. Ooh! A buddy read. I’ve heard some really great things about this one- we should do it.
I’ll run “Licorice” past the kids!

  3. That kitten melts my heart. She’s a love! And Foxy and her playing- adorable!!
I too have blankets that my cats covet- luckily they’re all neutral colors so I don’t have to worry about seasonal decor.

    1. Yes, it was really bad that Foxy fell in love with a blatantly Christmas quilt. I think he still kind of misses it, actually.

  4. OK, the kitty love is so cute! At least if the boyfriend takes kitty she will stay in the family.
Sounds like you had a great day in Miami.
Yes, I am iced in — with 5-7” snow covered with hours of sleet and freezing rain and no snow plow in sight. My husband and our neighbors cleared driveways and sidewalks, but we’re still not going anywhere. Oh yeah, it was. 15F when I woke up today with the high supposed to be 28F. :-O

    1. Egads. That sounds instense- glad you don’t have to go anywhere! Some of your cold air finally made it down to us- it got down to 48 overnight.

  5. I think you NEED to keep the kitten because she and Foxy get along so well!

I can’t believe you got up to 90 degrees! I’m glad it isn’t that warm here yet because we will have that soon enough. It’s supposed to be close to 80 this weekend though which is nice but I’m enjoying our cooler temps in the 60s for now so I can actually wear my sweaters!

    1. Foxy will be pretty sad if she doesn’t stay!
We got a cold front overnight and now it’s in the 50s (getting up to 60s later in the day.) I love it!!!

  6. Awww, Foxy and Kitty are so cute playing together! If you don’t keep her, I hope your daughter’s boyfriend is able to take her so at least you can continue to get updates on her. 🙂

It sounds like you had a great day in Miami. I like that blanked and it seems to be Foxy approved which is what’s most important!

  7. Let me know where to sign the petition for Kitty to stay with you. C’mon dads, get it together! I approve of breaking quarantine. I also approve of all of the snuggly seasonal blankets for Foxy.

I’ve heard great things about Frozen River. It’s one of those books that I keep hearing about but for some reason I’ve never picked it up.

    1. I’ll let you know how it is- I’ll try to get to it soon.
Quarantine has officially been broken- kitten was wandering around the house this morning (Muffin looked on with interest- a good sign!)

  8. I was in a bookstore yesterday and the snowstorm closed the library. I resisted. It was hard.

I loved that book. Read The Correspondent. It’s great.

Glad you enjoyed Miami. I’m looking forward to ocean runs.

    Now it’s its -3.

    1. Yikes, your weather. It did finally cool down last night- 48 degrees when I went for my run this morning! So much easier than running in the heat.
I LOVEd The Correspondent. And I’ve heard great things about this one.

  9. We have SO MUCH SNOW right now, Jenny. It’s cold and windy and the kids are off school yet again. But it makes sense because, again, SO MUCH SNOW. Moving on from this infernal winter weather.

Kitty is so cute. I hope you get to keep her. I mean, Foxy clearly is voting Yes.

I enjoyed The Frozen River. Didn’t love it, but it was a solid 4 stars for me! I think a book automatically bumps up my list by being based on a true story!

    1. Foxy is loudly voting yes! Muffin has changed from a “no” to a “maybe” so that’s a good thing.
Um, enjoy your snow? At least it sounds cozy!!!

  10. I feel like the fact that Foxy and kitty have hit it off means you should obviously keep her/him! Also even though our cat has a name (Oscar) we call her kitty most of the time. Granted her name doesn’t really fit since she was misgender when we got her.

90 degrees! That is wild! What a roller coaster of weather. It has been bitterly cold here but will finally warm up next weekend. I can’t wait!

  11. Team #keepthekitty over here. I mean, kittens are terrible, but then they grow up into perfect cats! (Also, shoutout to Muffin who probably misses her quite Charlotte life, huh?)

  12. Sorry you didn’t find a mug. Hopefully continuing to shop for one will be . . . fun? that kitten, well – shoot, how cute is that little guy. Miami sounds fun and oh what I wouldn’t do to land myself in a 90 degree climate about now.

  13. BOOKS & BOOKS! I USED TO GO THERE!!!! What a great store. You should look up Chamblin’s book mine… It’s in Jacksonville and it’s an absolute labyrinth of books. You would love it. I just joined another book club so I have to get two more books for the upcoming selections.

It was pretty toasty earlier this week, but now we are dropping fast. I don’t mind it at all.

That kitten is the cutest! And look at her and Foxy! I would love another pet.

  14. I think Foxy says the kitten is staying 🙂 Those pictures together are so sweet!

My family in Florida got “cold” the other day – it was 70something. A full 50 degrees warmer than I was at the time. It’s a wild weather world at the moment, haha …

  15. I am DYINGGGG at this little kitty. SO SMOL. I love that Foxy has fallen in love, too. How do you tear them apart??? NOOO. KEEP HER!!

It definitely has not been as warm in the Tampa Bay area! We’re sticking to the 50s/60s, which is just so nice. I’m living for it!

MOAR BOOKS. I have Frozen River on my shelf that I bought a long time ago. Someday I will read it.
