walkers walk… but runners fly

Tuesday Topics and FIGS!

It’s time for Tuesday Topics, which I host with Jenn from Runs With Pugs. This week’s topic: What does “springing forward” mean for your mindset this year?

SIGH.

Okay, I’m not going to belabor it. I hate turning the clocks ahead, but protesting is like arguing that the grass shouldn’t be green. It is what it is! But I’m still going to grumble when we’re driving to school in the pitch dark.

Instead, let’s talk about FIGS! For the month of February, Elisabeth has hosted her “FIG Collective” (FIG= Finding Joy in Gratitude). Check out her blog for FIG roundups, where dozens of bloggers share their FIGs from each week.

This past week I leaned into sensory experiences. Bath and Bodyworks was having a sale, and it was time to update my fragrances (we just finished up all the peppermint hand soaps from Christmas).

I LOVE smelling all the candles!!!

Sadly, the ones with the best names never smell that great. I wanted to get “Book Loft” but… blech. I ended up with this one:

… and new peach hand soaps for the bathrooms. Washing your hands should be fun! I love taking an extra moment to smell the soap each time.

When I went to hear SHU speak at a local library, we all got some pretty cool swag:

Just like washing your hands is more pleasurable with great smelling soap, it’s FUN to write with pretty markers! The highlighters are especially cool.

Speaking of colors… I need a new Garmin. My old one works well, but the battery life is not good enough to see me through my race this month. The one I’m looking at has three different options for the band- black, white, or aqua.

HMMMM! Should I get wild and go with the aqua? Will I regret it? To clarify, I usually only wear my Garmin for running (I can’t wear a watch when I’m working, so I generally don’t wear a watch at all during the day). So it’s not like it’s going to clash with my outfits… I think I have to go for it.

Another FIG- I can’t not mention the cats. They have been SO PRECIOUS. On Sunday I was reading on the couch and here’s what they were doing:

Meanwhile, Muffin has come around. She’s affectionate towards me, and neutral towards Sylvie (“Fine- you can live in my house. See if I care.”) I wonder if her attitude towards Sylvie will change at all as Sylvie grows up, but if not, it’s okay. Everyone is happily coexisting.

One last giant FIG goes to our fearless leader, Elisabeth!  She’s brought so much joy to our lives this month, not only by encouraging us to look for FIGs, but also rounding up everyone’s FIG’s into a weekly post. It’s a tremendous amount of work for her- THANK YOU, ELISABETH!!!

April Runfessions!

The first thing I should runfess is that I seem to have forgotten what month it is. When I went to write

Blah

You guys, I can’t shake off this feeling of… ennui? Listlessness? Those words seem too strong. It’s not like I’m

It’s Earth Week!

Hi there! Once again it’s time for Tuesday Topics, and this week’s prompt is: It’s Earth Week. How do you stay

  1. Those German Staedtler pens are my absolute favourite!! I’ve never had a better pen, such good quality!
I have a pink Garmin and was also unsure if I’d regret it… but it works well! I wear it 24/7 and even have it on when I have to look put together.
Also, a new Garmin right before your race feels perfect. Basically a pre-race souvenir for that 60-miler!

    1. Okay, you’ve convinced me- I’ll go with the aqua! Hopefully the race will go well, otherwise I’ll be mad every time I look at the watch, ha…

  2. Make sure the Garmin 55 has enough battery for your race. My old Garmin 55 only had up to 6 hours? I think. After it died, I went with the 365. It has more features than I need, but it is more reliable. I went with white instead of my usual black, lol.

I adore that photo of the cats!

    1. It says it has 20 hours of battery in GPS mode! I know, I could go with a more expensive model, but it will have more features than I need. Right now I have a white band, and that was a big step for me (I always had black in the past). I love it, so maybe that means I’m ready for the next step, aqua.

  3. Oh my, I would sit and stare at cute cats all day. So charming!
Go for the aqua – bright, cheerful, inspiration for your run!

    1. I know- the problem was I needed to get up and do some chores, but I couldn’t move because of the cats (heh heh…)
Yes, the aqua will be bright and cheerful!

  4. I love your FIGS posts – so much joy and happiness! Those cuddly, sleeping kitties are adorable.

My previous Garmin was aqua and I loved it! I wear my new one 24/7 (no more Fitbit) so I went with a more neutral color. Go bold, Jenny, especially since you mostly wear it for running!

  5. I have the 230 but my friend gave me the 265. I only use it for racing. Haven’t tried it yet.

    Yes. Go wild.

Glad to hear your cats are getting along.

Snow again today. Sigh. Supposed to warm up next week and then freeze.

    NE weather.

  6. That picture of Foxy and Sylvie together MELTS MY HEART. Too cute.

I love good smelling soap, but have to admit I usually just buy jumbo containers of perfectly fine, cheap stuff. You’re inspiring me.

And YES to the colourful watch band.

    1. I know the soap I got is more expensive than what you would normally get, but it lasts a while (I use your trick of diluting it with water when it gets to the end). For me, it’s worth it.
Kittens are just the best. EVERYTHING they do is super cute!

  7. Oooh new Garmin! I say go for the aqua! If you only wear it while running, so much the better! You’ll love looking at the pretty colour. As you know I got a new one as well (Vivoactive 6 I think) and the new features are so much fun!
I also like getting the nicest smelling soaps. I mean, I wash my hands a zillion times a day, it should be with something nice! That said, what DID Book Loft smell like? Maybe I should go to the mall and find out. I feel like an actual book loft would smell kind of musty.
I’m glad the cats are all getting along so well!

    1. You’ll have to go to the mall- I’m not sure if I can explain it. As a matter of fact I can’t even remember right now- but it was a big NO. Just like I wanted to get one in the fall that had a name… something about football. It also smelled bad.
I’ll definitely go with the aqua! I’m excited!

  8. Definitely go for the aqua watch! I have a Coros watch and the band I have with it right now is a blush pink but I also have a coral colored one, and I wear my watch all the time and don’t care if it goes with my outfit or not, but I just love colorful things!

I’m still finishing up my Christmas soaps from Bath & Body Works but I can’t wait to buy new ones for spring, hopefully soon!

    1. Yes, it’s definitely time to move on from peppermint (well- I don’t know if that’s what you had, but that’s what we had for Christmas). I wish they made hand soaps in smaller sizes, so we’re not still smelling Christmas smells in March!
I’ll definitely go with the aqua! I’m excited about it.

  9. I still believe that there will be a thruple kitty snuggle one day! Come on Muffin!

I think you have to get the aqua Garmin, since it’s calling to you.

Oh that’s right, now that you mention it, the time change is this weekend. Sigh, boo to the darker mornings but yay to guaranteed daylight for our nighttime dog walk and also yay for longer days so that I can do more things when I travel.

  10. I’m all about COLOR and vote the aqua band! When I was wearing a fitness tracker mine was raspberry pink 😀

I have both those pens and markers, and they are fabulous 😀 Such fun swag.

Those cats are ALL the HEART EYES!

    1. And I forgot to add my absolute misery about the spring forward coming this weekend … Waking up in the dark is the WORST, and then that crazy shove to all of a sudden be 8pm and not dark and trying to figure out what is even happening in life.
The chickens have the right idea: they rely solely on the sun, waking up earlier and later (or going to bed earlier or later) depending on the sun’s position. And on a really cloudy day, they sometimes go to bed earlier LOL

  11. Oh gosh, the sleeping kitty picture is everything! I’m glad they get along so well! I would be terrified to introduce a cat to our cat Oscar. She is pretty sassy so I feel like she might attack another cat… So we won’t get another cat until she’s passed which is hopefully a ways off (she’s turning 11 next month).

I hated springing forward pre-kids; now I prefer to spring forward because I don’t do a single thing to prepare. I just let them deal with the aftermath of losing an hour of sleep. When we fall back, we push the kids bedtime back by 10 minutes every night so they hopefully sleep until their normal wake-up time so we don’t have to deal with an extra hour of parenting. But I will be extra tired next week. I hate that we still adjust our clocks. It’s so stupid and antiquated!! But I will enjoy the extra hour of daylight in the evening. I know it’s not great for morning runners but I haven’t been a morning runner in ages.

  12. FOXY AND SYLVIE LOVE EACH OTHER. I have dreams that my girls cuddle, but they absolutely do not. I love that photo so much.
I’m in denial about all Daylight Saving changes.

  13. I’m glad that the cats in your house are at least tolerating each other, and love that Foxy and Sylvie love each other! I like the aqua watch, and now I want those highlighter pens. And I rarely use a highlighter, so it would probably be a bad idea. But they looks so…subtle.

  14. The cat cuddle puddle makes me so happy! My girls are not cuddlers, but every now and then I can get a pic of them hanging together.

    Go for the aqua!!

I think I tried the book loft candle, too, and didn’t love it. They had some crazy scent there, like ranch dipped in pizza?? Something totally WILD and it smelled HORRIFYING.
