walkers walk… but runners fly

Weekly Rundown- Hints of Fall!

Well, it was quite a week! I had a great long run, and also went up to Chicago to see my son! I’m linking up as always with Kim and Deborah for this Weekly Rundown. Let’s get right into it!

Monday

4 mile run. The strap to my headlamp broke so now I have to hold it in my hand, sigh! Can’t wit till we turn the clocks back…

Tuesday

Since I’m a Cool Walking Blogger, I started the morning with a 2 mile walk. Finally seeing some Halloween decorations in my neighborhood…

Spooky season, Florida-style.

I followed this walk with the Caroline Girvan deadbug workout.

Wednesday

Long run! This run was really important, because last week I ended up bailing on my long run, so I really needed to complete this one. I’m happy to say I felt like a completely different person this week! Everything felt great- but the trail was REALLY overgrown in places.

There’s a trail here somewhere…

I ended with 12.5 miles and felt like I could have kept running forever… except for a weird feeling in my SI joint. Seriously? Does there ALWAYS have to be something wrong???

In the evening I did Adriene’s yoga for lower back pain. That felt good.

Thursday

My original plan was to do a leg day at the gym this morning, and run again at night (front loading workouts before my trip)… but my SI joint was saying “no” to that. Instead I walked 2 miles…

…followed by upper body strength, and then Adriene’s low back yoga video again at night.

Friday

Travel day!!!!!!!!

Lots and lots of walking- in the airport, and then I walked all around Evanston with my son. Fun day!

Saturday

4 mile run! It wasn’t cold, but it was definitely cooler than Florida. This was a tough run because my sister’s neighborhood has HILLS.

And then… SO MUCH WALKING. Again I walked all around Evanston with my son. More on the trip coming up soon- I had so much fun.

Sunday

Travel home (boo hoo!) The trip was a whirlwind, but we did a lot, so it seemed longer than two days. I get home in the afternoon and will do SOMETHING… yoga? a walk? upper body strength? We’ll see.

How was your week?

Have you ever been to Chicago?

  1. Yes, I have been to Chicago! :p I’m so glad you’re enjoying these trips to see your son. Let me know if you ever have time to squeeze me in…

I’ve had lots of SI joint issues–in fact, it’s bothering me as we speak, and I have another big mile run planned on the trails. The uneven surface of the trails do not do my back any favors. Glad you found Adriene helpful–she has a new lower back class that I want to try!

    1. Yes, I’ve noticed that there’s another LB video of hers… maybe I’ll do it tonight.
I’ll be making more trips to Chicago over the next couple years, and I’ll make one o them longer so we can try to meet up. That would be fun!

  2. I went Chicago for the marathon and it is a beautiful city, especially downtown area. hope your lower back pain goes away soon.

    1. Thank you Coco! All the walking was good for my back- sitting on the place wasn’t so great. But- it will be fine. I need more yoga!

  3. I’m so glad the weather cooperated for your trip! I can’t wait to hear more about it. I was watching the weather ap and hoping for the best for you guys!

I have been to Chicago so many times since it’s one of my company’s headquarters. It’s one of my favorite cities in the US. There is so much to see and do. I did a small trip with Will in the summer but want to go back with the whole family in a few years when the boys can handle more walking as we barely scratched the surface of things to do!!

    1. Yes, the weather really held up for us, and we were happy. This morning before I left it was in the 40s and raining- SO glad we didn’t have that Friday or Saturday!

  4. Isn’t it amazing how many steps you can get in while traveling and especially in big cities! Hope you had a fab trip to Chicago and visit with your son. I had my daughter here from Chicago this weekend

    1. Oh my gosh, SO many steps. I was truly exhausted (but in a good way) by Saturday night.
I guess with your daughter in Chicago, you go there all the time- lucky you!

  5. Glad you had a good trip to Chicago! How’s your SI joint after all that airplane time?

Maybe this afternoon you can just do some stretching while watching football. 😉

    1. Well, it was just about the most uncomfortable flight I’ve ever been on- my back wasn’t happy. BUT, I will do some stretching tonight and it will be fine.

  6. It sounds like a fantastic trip! Our son got his MBA at University of Chicago Booth and we loved traveling to see him and our d-i-l while they lived there.

So sorry to hear about your SI joint acting up. Hope it was just a short-term thing and amounts to nothing.

    1. Thanks Debbie- It’s still talking to me a little, although my run yesterday was fine. A trip to the chiropractor might be in order soon.

  7. Sounds like a great week for you — a good long run and time in Chicago with your son, plus cooler weather!

I’ve been to Chicago once, as a kid. My grandparents all lived in Wisconsin so it was a fairly short drive to the city, and we went to the American Girl Place (my sister and I loved American Girl dolls growing up) with my dad’s parents. So I don’t really remember much about the city other than that, since that was the main thing we did!

    1. My grandparents lived in Wisconsin too (Appleton) so that was where we went for a lot of our vacations. Yeah, I guess if you were getting American Girl dolls you probably weren’t looking around at the architecture! Chicago really is a beautiful city- it would be worth another visit.

  8. Yay I love Chicago! Since moving to Cleveland it’s a city we’ve gone to a few times because we can drive there – and I have friends there and my sister in law used to live there with her family before moving back here. Sounds like you had a good trip! Glad the weather worked out!

    1. It was a great trip! And yes, you’re lucky Chicago is within driving distance for you- it’s such a nice city (ahem- if you catch it when the weather is nice!)

  9. I’ve never been to Chicago but I’ve heard such great things about it! Also, it sounds like there is a lot to see/do there. Plus, it’s close to quite a few bloggers.
I hope you had a fabulous time with Paul!!!
And yay for walking and running and all the other things you do in the span of a week.
    Safe travels home <3

    1. Thank you Elisabeth! Another time I would have to take a longer trip to see all the bloggers in that area- there’s a big group!

  10. I have been to Chicago. Ha. Glad you had a great visit.

My week was a blur, and I’m really finding most of them to be that way right now. Between college application *urging* and college coach reaching out and baking and planning for another tailgate, plus another family therapy session on my day off – there’s not much down time lately. Plus a yearly physical for Kay. Oh, I went to Costco twice last week, because when I cleared my countertop I realized I never saw what was on sale. I needed to grab some sale items. Reg was home, so that was nice and fun – he’s always super helpful.

  11. Oh I am so glad your trip went so well! Can’t wait to read more about it!

Hopefully the SI joint issue was some sort of pre-trip stress?? I hope it’s behind you now. Why is there always Something?!?!

That trail is so overgrown! Do you ever worry about snakes? I feel like that is all I would be thinking of. Maybe it would add some speed, lol.

  12. I’ve been to Chicago but before I was a runner. I need to go back. You were busy and you ran!!

Are those Topos? I think I had them.

  13. That was a whirlwind trip! I’ve been to Chicago once and I would love to go back!

Hope all your joints and muscles are feeling better! We need you at 100%!

We also have a few dead leaves that we can use to pretend it’s fall. So close.

  14. It’s so dark now in the morning! I am glad you got to enjoy some Halloween decorations – they’re definitely in full swing in my neighborhood!
