walkers walk… but runners fly

Weekly Rundown- Just a Regular Week

Helloooo! Thanks for stopping by for the Weekly Rundown, hosted as always by Kim and Deborah. This week felt a little blah with no long run. The most exciting thing that happened was my son and his fiancee have set a date for the wedding- July 25. GAHHH! It’s real! I mean, it was always real, but now it feels real-er. Anyway, let’s just see how the week played out, fitness-wise.

Monday

In the morning I did my hip stability exercises, and later in the day got out for a 4 mile run.

Tuesday

I started the day with Caroline Girvan’s stellar abs workout. The plan was to then do an upper body strength session, but I was nursing a sore wrist (occupational hazard.) I quickly realized that picking up dumbbells was a bad idea, so I let it rest for the day.

Wednesday

Long cardio day at the gym! I did 30 minutes on the bike, 30 minutes on the elliptical, and then an hour running on the treadmill. Last time, Deborah asked why I do the run last. I’m trying to replicate the feeling of running on tired legs, which I will for sure be doing in my race! Mission accomplished.`

Thursday

Hip stability exercises, lower body strength, and Caroline Girvan tucked abs workout.

Friday

My wrist is still sore, but I have to do SOMETHING for my upper body, so I don’t end up looking like a T-Rex. I was able to do a little lifting without straining anything- hopefully enough to at least keep me from getting any weaker. Later in the day, a 4 mile run.

Saturday

Another day where I slept as late as possible before going to work, with a planned run later in the day. Except that in the afternoon it was 87 degrees, super humid and with scattered thunderstorms. Fantastic- I guess it’s summer now. I took myself to the gym, where I ran 4 miles on the treadmill.

I’m getting worse and worse at treadmill photos!

Sunday

On tap for today… YOGA (whatever happened to that, anyway? I need it!) Next week will be my LAST LONG RUN before my race (eek!) My main goal right now is to keep myself healthy and whole.

How was your week? Do you wish it were 87 degrees and humid where you are? (GRR!)

It’s Earth Week!

Hi there! Once again it’s time for Tuesday Topics, and this week’s prompt is: It’s Earth Week. How do you stay

  1. Not 87 already and humid? That’s peak summer for me- which I despise, so you can keep it!
It was 45F and sunny yesterday afternoon – sons did some yard work. Chainsaw and pruners took care of an overgrown bush. I made muffins and rolls to fuel their efforts.
    Have a great run today!

    1. I would much rather have 45 and sunny than our weather!!! Hopefully this is just “false summer” and we still have some nice weather ahead of us before hot, muggy season arrives for real.

    1. I stopped using her app, because I was just doing the same things over and over again. I know she has a lot of new things on there, I should try it out again. I’ll be interested to hear what you think!

  2. 87 and humid. Not yet. But not 25 and windy.

    We need a compromise.

    Congrats on a normal week.

Two big events. 60 miler and a wedding. In the sane year!!!

    1. Yes, can’t we just have normal, comfortable weather? Somewhere right in between yours and mine would be perfect.

  3. 87 and humid! Oof! It’s too early for that! I hope your wrist feels better soon. It’s hard to tweak things! I can see how that is an occupational hazard though!

July 25th! How exciting to have a date!

My week was busy as I was traveling. I went to OTF in Baltimore, though. It was nice to fit a workout in while traveling. I went to a workout class with friends yesterday morning, too, which was really fun. We are trying to do that monthly. I love combining exercise and seeing friends!

    1. It’s nice that you can go to OTF when you’re traveling! It sounds like your week was busy, but fun. And yes- it’s too early for summer to arrive.

  4. I have to do my treadmill run last because I get so sweaty I can’t stand to do anything else afterwards!

Wow your race is so close! You’ve got this!!

  5. I’m sitting here, trying to convince myself to join my trail sisters for our morning run. It’s 24F and 20mph winds. I’m not sure what is worse–87 and humidity or this. I’m with Darlene–can we meet in the middle? lol

Nice week of training! You got this!

I didn’t realize your son was engaged–how did that slip by me? I need wedding details…

    1. I’ll post wedding details when I have them! All I know now is it’s July 25 in Indiana.
Yes, let’s see… if we met in the middle it would be 55 degrees- PERFECT!!!

  6. Wow you r race is almost here! So exciting to have that and your son’s wedding! Wow they are moving fast on the wedding!! Will it be in Florida? WE need to hear some details. I’m in my ful mother of the bride era if you need anything !

    1. The wedding will be in Indiana, where Isabel’s parents are. I will let you know- but I think as mother of the groom I’m getting off pretty easy here!

  7. I’m at the point where I’m doing a treadmill run because it’s cold and icy! I can’t believe how warm it has been for you. Good luck with race month! I can’t believe it’s here!

    1. Thank you Melissa! And… I hopewe get some cooler weather soon. I certainly hope it’s not really summer already here.

  8. “Do you wish it were 87 degrees and humid where you are?” Um, no, and I feel like this would be a great prompt for AI to use to write a poem in the voice of Dr. Seuss! So I asked Gemini to help me out…

Oh, would you like it hot and wet?
The stickiest day you’ve ever met?
    With eighty-seven on the dial,
And humidity for mile and mile?
Your shirt would stick, your socks would soak,
You’d feel just like a steaming folk!
But as for me, I’d rather stay
Where breezes blow the heat away.

Only one more long run before your race? Go, Jenny, go!

    1. Hahahahaha…. okay, best comment ever. This poem is spot on, honestly. I would also like to stay where breezes blow the het away.

  9. It’s gonna be 90 degrees here, but it doesn’t really get humid so that helps! But it feels too soon to be this hot! Luckily next weekend is supposed to be back to normal in the mid 70s.

How exciting to have a date for the wedding! That’s actually two days before my birthday haha! I’m assuming it’s gonna be somewhere that’s not as hot as Florida or AZ in the summer?

I had a great week as I only had 2.5 days of work and then was in Sedona for 3 days checking out part of the course for my upcoming race! I’m not excited for a full week of work this week though…

    1. The wedding will be in Indiana, which could be beautiful, hot AF. You never know!
Yes, at least where you live if you can get out early in the morning it’s not too bad??? A lot of times here, the humidity is at its highest right before sunrise so you lose either way- you either get the blistering sun AND humidity, or no sun but even more humidity. Sigh.

  10. Hmmm, you’re asking about 87 degrees and humidity? While I’m not a fan of the humidity, I do love me some temps in the 80’s!! You probably knew that, though, LOL. Wow, I didn’t realize the big race day was so close. Your strategy of doing the runs last, as you explained, is great! Makes total sense 😉

  11. EEEEK wedding!
My wrist is also sore, which is making a lot of yoga tough – I tried to push through it yesterday and last night it was really sore but today it’s not too bad.
    Sending good race vibes!

  12. A WEDDING DATE! July 25th! It’s really real now! How exciting!

Also running on tired legs on purpose is such a smart training strategy and I love that you are building that into your long cardio days. Your race legs are going to thank you.

87 degrees and humid already though?! We aren’t quite there but it’s getting close. Hope the wrist cooperates and that yoga happens for you this week because it sounds it would feel great for you. Good luck on that last long run!

  13. Woohoo on a date for the wedding! You will be in top notch shape for the wedding with all of the training you are doing for your race! I can’t believe you are down to your final long run already. It’s practically the home stretch and you are doing so well. I hope that last long run goes equally well for you!
I will pass on 87 and humid. Hopefully we will have a proper spring in Ohio and ease into Summer. It never really happens, but I can hope!

  14. Yes, Jenny, yes, I do. I LIVE for 86 and humid. This is not a joke. I do NOT complain in the summer because I DO complain all winter long. I LONG for humidity. I LONG for my bones to not feel cold. I am so jealous.

Good job this week! Your consistency is such an inspiration to me.

  15. The only time I’d ever wish for those temps was if it is in the 90s. This is why you don’t see me after January. Be safe and strong, and congrats to them on setting a date!

  16. Well, I can promise I will always remember Paul’s anniversary because… it’s MY ANNIVERSARY. I smiled so big when I saw the date. We’ll be wedding twinsies… 17 years apart 😉
