walkers walk… but runners fly

Weekly Rundown- Rain and Gloom, Florida-Style

When I was putting together the photos for this post, I thought “Did I move to Seattle without realizing it?” It was such a gloomy week here! Apparently our rainy September has continued into the new month. As always, I’m linking up with Kim and Deborah for this Weekly Rundown! Let’s just see how the week went.

Sunday

5 mile run! This was the only run of the whole week where I saw sunshine, and if I remember correctly, it was overcast by the time I was finishing. That’s okay! Overcast means cooler.

At night I did an upper body strength workout.

Monday

This was a light day- I did Caroline Girvan’s deadbug workout in the morning and that was it. My plan to walk after work was foiled by the gloomy weather. Plus I wanted to take a nap, heh heh.

Tuesday

11 mile trail run! It was overcast the whole time which helped SO MUCH. The remarkable thing about this run is that I saw SEVEN DEER. Or, I saw a deer seven times. It’s possible that there were three or four deer that I saw multiple times. Still- that was a record for me.

Wednesday

Lower body strength day! I did some bodyweight only exercises, like runner’s touch and one let sit-to-stand, and then some weighted squats. I’m still a little leery of my SI joint- in retrospect I think that problem was caused when I got a little too aggressive with the leg press at the gym. So this workout was a little more conservative, but everything felt good.

Later in the day I got out for a 45 minute walk.

Thursday

In the morning, a 4 mile run.

Later in the day I did another upper body strength workout.

Friday

Another light day, with Caroline Girvan’s deadbug workout in the morning. I meant to walk after work, but once again bailed. Which means I’ve already failed at Elisabeth’s  Cool Blogger’s Walking Club, on the second day. Sigh. I did do Adriene’s yoga for lower back pain at night, and that felt good.

Saturday

5 mile run before work! I added in some speed work.

Great photo, with my eyes closed…

Then I had a loooong workday, and ended feeling very rundown. I think I’m fighting off a virus, because my daughter and her boyfriend both had colds this week. Well, at least tomorrow I can…

Sunday

GAH. It’s my colonoscopy prep day, ugh. I’ll do a short, easy run in the morning and then I’ll be fasting, and drinking the prep in the evening. I can’t wait!!!

How was your week? Did you have some nice weather? Do you think your Sunday will be as fun as mine?

  1. I had a colonoscopy last month. Fortunately, we went on a hike the day before which took my mind off the fasting. The fasting part didn’t even seem so bad this time round. The worst part was the next day – for my prep I couldn’t drink anything 4 hours before the session, not even water. I’ve never had the urge to drink water so much in my life, ha!
All the best with the appointment, Jenny!

    1. Yes, I remember that- you can’t drink any water. Why is that SO HARD??? Anyway thanks Catrina- I’ll be glad when it’s over!

  2. Happy C-1 Day! I can’t say whether your Sunday or mine with be better: all that we know is that you’ll get more reading done, and I’ll have a better dinner.

I hope that it’s still overcast on your first day back to running!

    1. Very true- I’ll get a lot of reading done. Whatever your dinner is, it will definitely be better than mine!

  3. We had a very similar rainy, gloomy week too, with nonstop rain for 3 days. It was tough to get motivated to do anything! How nice that you saw DEER. I saw no deer last week, which just added to the gloom!

All the best with the colonoscopy prep. The worst!!! But you’ll be glad you did it.

  4. Gah prep day! Bleh! I am glad I got cleared for 7 years because I found the prep process horrible and I am a hearty person. But I threw up several times from drinking the Gatorade miralax mix and then again the next morning when I had to drink another powder mixed into water. Gah!! But I was given an A+ for prep by the GI doc so at least I got a gold star. I was paranoid I wasn’t properly prepped and would have to go through the process again!

We have had a rainier week, too. It rained at the start of Paul’s soccer game and I was not expecting that. I was so so cold! Luckily it was a brief shower but then I was cold for the rest of the game.

I traveled this week so went to OTF in Manhattan one morning and then slept in the other mornings because I felt utterly exhausted. I was so peopled out!

    1. I’ve only had one other colonoscopy, and I managed to drink the prep without an issue. My sister also throws up from the drink though. Yet somehow or other we all manage to be fully prepped!
I hope you had fun in NYC despite being tired!

  5. Out of the challenge on the second day? Doh! But that sounds like what happens when I try to keep a streak at something. You’ve got so many other fitness things going on it was probably the last thought on your mind!
Pretty sure no matter what I’m doing it will be better than C-test prep. I hope your prep and test goes well!
I didn’t even notice your eyes were closed in the picture due to those sculpted arms! My friend’s son is getting married in July and she just joined my gym. I told her about your successful plan to motivate her! Your hard work really paid off.

    1. Hmm. I have to say my arms don’t look sculpted all the time. But I have been fairly consistent with upper body strength (starting with the wedding motivation) so I’m sure it’s helping.
Prep say is going well so far! I’m sitting here sipping tea. Things won’t get crazy till later on…

  6. Oh the colonoscopy prep is the worst. Good luck to you hope it all goes smoothly for you. I am due for one as well but I’ve been stalling. It’s been gloomy here past few days as well. I’m ready for my amazing fall weather to return

    1. I stalled a bit on this one- I really should have done it over the summer but didn’t want to deal with it on top of a wedding!

  7. I hope your colonoscopy tomorrow goes well! It’s always nice to get that over with – is it your first?

I agree with Lisa, look at that definition in your biceps!

    1. This is my second colonoscopy, so I have a bit of an idea what I’m dealing with! It really isn’t THAT bad. I mean- hopefully I’ll have good results and won’t have to do it again for a while.

  8. I hope the prep goes well and so does the colonoscopy! I’m glad I’m not at the age yet where I have to get one done because it doesn’t sound fun…well, the prep at least.

We got rain from a hurricane in the Pacific early in the week but it wasn’t quite as much as they were predicting. We’re done with our monsoon season now so we usually don’t get rain again until around Christmastime. It’s supposedly an El Niño year which means we could get more rain but I’ll believe it when I see it!

    1. We’re also predicted to get more rain in the winter because of El Nino. I also heard that mean it will be a warmer than usual winter, NOOOOOOOO!!! Hopefully they’re wrong about that.
Colonoscopies really aren’t THAT bad- the prep day isn’t great but it’s worth it. I definitely need to do it on a regular basis because I have a family history of colon cancer.

  9. Somehow we’re not getting much rain, and I love it! I hope that we get a warmer winter like you, but I don’t think we are. Good luck with the prep and colonoscopy! I had my first one last year and it was NOT fun for me. I had to start early because of family histoy and then the day of, I found out I have a tumultous colon AND the anesthesia didn’t work so they could not get it done — it took a few hours and I had to move rooms in the middle. Hopefully yours is less eventful!

    1. ACK!!! That sounds horrible!!! I’m answering this comment on Monday afternoon and all went well. Sheesh- I’ll bet you’re really NOT looking forward to the next one.

  10. When I went to Seattle, it was sunny and beautiful every day. I think it has a bad rep for no reason. Is everyone confusing it for Portland?

  11. The colonoscopy screening in the US is very ambitious but also, it’s not wrong doing it as it will save some lives potentially! But I know the prep is awful, I have IBD (a mild variant, well controlled with medication) and have done that a few times.
Seven deer during one run, that’s a lot!!
I’m glad to hear you’re back to doing squats. So you think the problem was caused by the leg press? I thought that completely ruled out engaging the lower back! But I haven’t done leg presses in a long time.

    1. I know, it seems weird that leg press would be the culprit. I switched to leg press from back squats, thinking it would be better. But I think I loaded too much weight on, because I made it really hard and felt a little “twinge” and then the next day the SI joint pain appeared. So I don’t know! I seem to hurt myself no matter what.

  12. Cheers to a happy Sunday, LOL! I hope all goes well as you prep for our bug event tomorrow. My Sunday was pretty nice…my 8-mile run was fantastic, with awesome weather and temps and SUNSHINE! Seriously, it was probably one of my best “long” runs, ever 😉

  13. I had an overcast day on Sunday which I loved for the running! what a difference it makes to perceived effort.
fasting doesn’t sound fun! my husband when he did it he didn’t fast, simply took the meds at night and ready in the morning. although visits to the bathroom overnight multiple times. it seems your prep is different?

    1. I was supposed to start fasting after breakfast the day before. Then I took one dose of prep at night and one again in the morning. It does sound like the preps are different! Hmmm.

  14. Coming to comment late; hope the colonoscopy prep wasn’t… too horrible. Blergh. Gold stars for doing this important health monitoring, though!!!

Also, you move your body for 10 minutes intentionally every single day… SO YOU ARE DEFINITELY A MEMBER OF THE COOL BLOGGERS WALKING CLUB!

    1. Okay thank you Elisabeth- but now I’ve missed today. I figure getting a colonoscopy is a good excuse though!

  15. I hope the colonoscopy went smoothly, Jenny!

Seven deer! Wow. That’s a lot of deer.

I have also already failed at the walking club. I missed two days in a row. But I am going to get a walk in today, I swear!

    1. Ha ha… maybe we can be a subset of the club… I’ll have to think of a name for us. Delinquent Walking Bloggers? Uncool Walking Bloggers? Something like that. We can jump back in- I’m sure Elisabeth would encourage it!
