walkers walk… but runners fly

Weekly Rundown- Short But Sweet

Hello! This is going to be a short post. We spent the week hosting my son and future DIL- it was fun and busy and I hardly took any photos (WHY???) I eased back into a more “normal” routine with some Caroline Girvan core workouts, some upper body strength, and hip stability exercises.

There was some walking:

And there was some running!!!

Yay!

Moving forward, I’m going to start the Caroline Girvan Iron Series. But first…

Happy Easter! I’m making an Easter brunch AND an Easter dinner (so much cooking! Will I remember how?) I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. Thanks as always to Kim and Deborah for hosting the Weekly Rundown!

If you celebrate Easter, what are you making for dinner?- We’re having baked ziti.

Have you ever done Caroline Gircan’s Iron Series? –I did it once before!

It’s Earth Week!

Hi there! Once again it’s time for Tuesday Topics, and this week’s prompt is: It’s Earth Week. How do you stay

  1. Happy Easter! Im glad you’ve had a good week with P + I! It’s hard to remember to take photos! You’ll have to take some today. I imagine they are going to church so will probably be dressed extra nicely for that. Does your husband have a trumpet gig?

We are going to my MIL’s house for Easter brunch later this am. I made an early Easter dinner on Friday – ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, and asparagus.

    1. Actually my husband AND son played an Easter gig together! I watched it via livestream, and Isabel attended in person. I did get a few good photos, finally.

  2. Happy Easter! I’m glad you’ve had a fun week hosting your son and future DIL!

I’m at my parents’ this weekend for Easter and it was my dad’s birthday on Friday so we went out last night to celebrate. This is my peak week for my upcoming race so I did a lot of running this weekend and it was nice to have Friday off work so I could get my long run done then. My mom is gonna make us Easter brunch and dinner today but I’m not sure what’s she planning so it’ll be a nice surprise!

    1. That sounds like a perfect weekend!!! Lots of running, time with your parents, and someone else cooking dinner. I hope it was fun.

  3. Happy Easter, Jenny! We’re on our way to have Easter dinner with family so I don’t have to cook. I did make a beautiful antipasto platter though!

Glad you had so much fun with your son and future daughter-in-law! No pictures means you were really living in the moment and enjoying your time. 🙂

    1. Yes, no photos does mean a fun time- I wish I could have had fun AND taken photos though. Well… we have a few.

  4. We go to my MIL who’s over 100. We order take out – lasagna, chicken parm…

Hope your dinner turns out well.

  5. I am hosting an Easter dinner, minus my son who stayed back on campus. It’s OK, he didn’t have any extra days off due to the holiday and he’s still recovering from his spring break! I am making the traditional ham dinner for our family.
How fun that you got to spend time with the newly engaged couple! I think you mentioned the wedding will be sooner than later… were wedding plans a topic this week? That’s so exciting to think about!!

    1. Yes, the wedding is in July! We did get to talk about the wedding, although they feel like they’re behind in the planning and I didn’t want to stress them out. It was really fun though.

  6. Welcome back to the run!

We did our family Easter dinner last night: ham, cheesy potatoes, mini quiches, and french toast casserole. After all the dust settled, we were left with a mountain of ham and nothing else, so I’m going to make a potato casserole to give us a couple of dinners and then I’ll put the rest of the ham in the freezer to bring back later in quiche.

I’ve done Iron twice. Right now I’ve got a pretty solid bodyweight strength routine going, but hmmm….would I want to add in some CG full body workouts? Stay tuned!

    1. I’m actually afraid to start Iron! The first workout is lower body, which I haven’t done in WEEKS, and I know it’s going to be hard. But I’m going to have to jump into it… tomorrow.

  7. Ooh iron workouts sound interesting. You have turned me into Caroline Girvan’s core workouts! I love them! We used to do brunch AND dinner but it was just an all-day eating affair and too much (it was with the same people! And we are all so full!). So now it is just brunch, but it is from 11-5 or so.

    1. You might like the Iron series! really good, hard workouts. And, yes- we had a brunch and dinner, all with the same people as well. There was a big gap in between so we got hungry again…. but it was a lot of cooking.

  8. We ended up canceling our Easter plans with friends because my cough is lingering and now my husband isn’t feeling well. We didn’t want to get anyone sick. It is nice to have today as an easy day before going back to work (I missed Monday, Tuesday and Friday last week because of sickness). We made hamburgers for lunch and my husband is smoking some ribs for dinner. We are all being extremely lazy other than that. I’m hoping my daughter doesn’t catch this because she ends up with pneumonia every time she gets a respiratory thing. Fingers crossed. I’m glad you got to enjoy your week with son and future DIL!

    1. Well… a lazy day is pretty nice! I hope you’re feeling better soon, and that your daughter doesn’t get sick.

  9. I’d love to hear more about the Iron Series! I hosted my sis and parents, and the son and GF are due to arrive any minute (for the “evening” dinner). I made ham balls, cheesy potatoes, honey-glazed carrots, Easter Rice Krispie treats (made with Peeps instead of traditional marshmallows) and a salad. My mom brought the apple pie and my sis brought chicken & noodles…so I have an ABUNDANCE of leftovers for this Dinner #2 😉

    1. Omg- my daughter would LOVE Peeps rice krispie treats! I might have to make some this week…I’ll bet I can find Peeps on sale!

  10. I just spent Easter with my family, including an adorable egg hunt, and the only thing I took a photo of was the strawberry fluff. Sometimes you just have to be in the moment, not taking photos!

I’ve done the Iron series. The upper body workouts are usually okay, but sometimes it’s just shoulders on shoulders. I have to do a lot of modifications, too, for lower body, because she likes Bulgarian lunges a lot more than I do. I also have a video labelled day 18 – this is too many glutes all at once, which I think is funny right now, but probably didn’t think was funny at the time. I also have a note on day 20 that says “Ha ha. Lots of modifications on this one. I think there are exercises that are literally impossible to do, although Jenny has done this one repeatedly, so someone can do it, I guess.” You’re the Jenny there, so this is pretty meta.

    1. Oh boy. I don’t even remember what day 20 is but now I’m scared. I really haven’t done any lower body strength lately, so this is going to be a challenge!!!
Glad you had a nice Easter!

  11. I have never done every day of one of Caroline Girvan’s series. I generally figure out how much time I have, and rotate between upper and lower body, and find one. I don’t like to do any that include step-ups. Why? I don’t know, maybe I should pull over my kitchen chair and give one a try. It would likely be really good exercise.

I’m glad you had such a nice week with your son and DIL! I hope you had a lovely Easter. We saw family last weekend for my daughter’s birthday, so this weekend we laid low, which was SO NICE. Nice to not have to run around and spend the whole day. Instead, I slept in a bit, then had my tea and some yogurt, then did my CG workout (leg day), then Yoga, then went for a short walk. Then I made brunch – toast with smoked salmon, cream cheese, cucumbers, and pickled onions; fruit salad; cinnamon bread from the bakery (my daughter’s favorite) and mimosas. Then I took a shower and had a nap! I didn’t have to get dressed up, didn’t even shower until after brunch, no makeup, it was wonderful. My husband made a big dinner of nibbly things. We went mostly Mediterranean, in honor of Jesus, though I would be surprised if Jesus often ate a meal with as many little sides as we had. I won’t even list them, just know there were a lot.

    1. Ha, it actually sounds like a really nice day! I also didn’t get dressed up- I put on a nicer shirt for Easter dinner but was still wearing pajama pants, ha.

  12. I don’t take many photos when I’m with family — I’m more immersed in the moment and don’t want to intrude.

Sounds like you had a great time.

Yay on the return to running!

    1. Yes, I didn’t even really think about taking photos, which is probably a good thing. We got a few- some that other people took and sent on to me. We had a really nice time.

  13. I’m working through the Caroline Girvan Epic Heat series. They tend to be shorter classes then whatever the series was I did before this one. I cannot remember what that one was called. I hosted a family dinner on Saturday night before the Easter Vigil mass and then I hosted a brunch on Sunday, because Tank’s roomie was able to join us from the city and then Coach’s sister and her family were able to come on Sunday for brunch. I made a lot of food in a short amount of time and I hope my people enjoy the leftovers that has generated, because PEACE OUT in the kitchen.

  14. Short and sweet is perfect!

I made these delicious sliders: I did two batches, one turkey and cheddar and the other ham and swiss. They go on Hawaiian rolls and get a glaze of butter, brown sugar, worcestshire, dijon mustard and onion powder and are yummy and melty after a spin in the oven. I also made the viral crispy potato salad which was a huge hit, as well as blackberries and dumplings, which was pretty but not getting a repeat. My son’s girlfriend made her delicious deviled eggs and my mom brought pasta salad, macaroni salad, cole slaw and pickled beets, all homemade. It was easy and good.
