Hey there! I had a good week of full-on summer vibes. This meant sleeping a little later some days, and also getting out for some morning runs. I finished Caroline Girvan’s Iron Series, and am now going back to certain workouts I want to try again. I had a small glitch, but that’s par for the course at this point. All is well! Here’s how the week played out…
Sunday
Today was the day! I went to the gym and completed the last workout in the Iron Series. Because I switched two days around, I finished with Day #29, which was a full body workout. I did this one in the gym and enjoyed it.
ALSO, I had a long walk (hour and 20 minutes) and phone call with a friend, I’m enjoying these walk and talks! I’ve been friends with this woman since our sons were in preschool together, which means this boy is Paul’s oldest friend . They live in Tampa now, but are coming to Indiana for Paul’s wedding in July! We’re excited, and touched that they’re willing to make the trip.
Monday
4 mile run to start the day!

Later on I did Adriene’s yoga for lower back pain.
Tuesday
I originally planned to do a trail run this week, but- it’s a long story- ended up on the treadmill, which is the polar opposite. That’s okay! I ran 5 miles and incorporated some hills, which made it a nice workout.

Later in the day I did Adriene’s yoga for psoas. As I was coming out of a low lunge, I felt a strange and ominous twinge in my right hamstring. HMMM.
Wednesday
I still felt a weird ache in that hamstring, so scrapped the workout I had planned for the day, which was all lunges and step ups. Instead I went to the gym and did Iron Series Day #22, upper body. I added in some core work and a walk on the treadmill.
Thursday
I was disappointed that I didn’t feel sore from the workout I did yesterday. I lifted heavy (for me) weights and worked to failure several times. I felt like I didn’t get proper credit for that effort, somehow!
4 mile run…

… and later in the day, yoga for low back pain.
Friday
Okay, I think my hamstring is better! I did Iron Series Day #21, which is lunges and step ups. Everything felt good, and this was a challenging workout for me.
Saturday
4 mile run to start the day!

Then, I worked a long day. With my new summer schedule I work all day on Saturdays- it was a good day, but my low back is asking for some love, and I know just where to get it.
Sunday
On tap for today- definitely an Iron Series workout! If my legs are recovered from the step ups, I’ll do lower body. Otherwise I have several upper body workouts to choose from.
How was your week? Are you enjoying the long summer days?

Phew on the hamstring! Mine has been tight for ages and I’m worried that at some point it will become a full-blown injury. However, since I’ve been running less, it has quietened down quite nicely.
A walk and talk with a friend sounds nice! So good that the family can make it to the wedding, too!
Yes, I’ve dealt with enough hamstring drama to make me very cautious. This one seems to have calmed down phew.
I ran my first trail race in a long time and thought about you Jenny. I loved it as it’s an easy trail and little elevation change, looks very like the trail you’ve been running.
we are in winter months in Brailia, day starts 640am and sunset 545pm and super chill, which I love.
Ooh, a trail run! Yes, easy trails are the best. You can just enjoy it without worrying about falling. And… I’m envious. i want it to be winter again!
Hope the hamstring cooperates!
I am so horrible at walk and talks. I do them and always enjoy them, but just generally avoid talking on the phone which is a shame since it’s a great point of connection AND can be a wonderful chance to fit in some pleasant exercise.
Honestly, I don’t usually like talking on the phone, and I’ve discovered I like it much more when I’m walking at the same time. Now I always try to coordinate a phone call with walking.
The long walk and talk sounds like fun — I love those and need to do them more! They’re hard to plan for me and impromptu ones dont always happen. It is so wonderful you have remained friends for that long!Glad the hamstring seems to be ok? Hope it stays fine!
The hamstring seems fine, but I’ll be keeping an eye on it. Yes, I can see how it would be hard do an impromptu walk and talk- definitely gets easier as kids get older!
A treadmill hill workout is probably harder than a trail run. Mentally it is for sure!
Lol when you’re too in shape from doing Iron to feel sore.
The long daylight is awesome!
Yes on the treadmill run- except that the trail run would have been horrendously hot so…
I guess it does show I’m in better shape, but c’mon! I worked hard and wanted to feel those DOMS!
Glad the hamstring was just a minor blip in your week.
Your body doesn’t always “reward” you with DOMS after a hard workout, but it’s hard not to rely on it as “proof” that you worked hard!
It’s nice that you are reconnecting with old friends ahead of the wedding.
Yes, the hamstring was a blip, apparently. Old Me would have pushed through, and that’s why I was always injured.
I am sometimes surprised which workouts make me sore and which do not. It’s all good though! WE need to hear more about the wedding! Where in Indiana? We just got all of our pics back from y daughter’s wedding
I’ll write more about the wedding soon! But it’s in Valparaiso. I hope we get to see some of the official photos from your daughter’s.
Yay for summer hours and more relaxed schedules! I’m loving the longer daylight hours. I get up at 5 AM on weekdays and it’s pretty cool that I can see as I leave the bedroom and don’t have to bumble around trying not to wake my husband.
How nice that your friends can make it to Indiana for the wedding! Isn’t it great having a buddy to chat with while doing a cardio workout? Kim’s and my miles fly by on Thursdays during our phone conversations!
Yes, I’m really seeing the benefits of having someone to talk to! And, it’s funny how much more daylight you get than us. It’s not getting light till 6 here, which I like, as I don’t want to get up before 6 in the summer!
Your walk and talk sounds wonderful!! It’s a nice way to catch up with a friend – and yet I never do them! I need to work on that!
We are loving the long summer days. Plus we have had great weather lately, too. I took the boys to a wading pool yesterday at 10 am since it was already quite warm at that time of day!
You definitely paid your dues- you deserve beautiful weather now! I hope it continues for your trip to your parents this weekend.
Am I enjoying the long summer days? Ummm…YES!!!!!! I love the early sunrises (we now have pretty much full daylight before 5:00AM) and beautiful relaxing evenings (with daylight lasting well beyond 9:00PM). It would be great to have these conditions year-round, or at least for a few extra months. Sigh. I’m glad your hammie is doing better…no time for cranky muscles!
Oh what a scare with the hamstring! It has to keeo behaving now.
I often experience that during the heavier workouts, those with heavier weights and lower rep range, I get very little or no DOMS, compared to when I do more reps. But there are exceptions when the weights get very challenging!
I’m definitely enjoying the longer days! Still light as close to 10 pm is fantastic!
I’m glad your hamstring didn’t turn into anything. I swear, as I get older, every twinge and pull puts the fear of God into me. Great work in the gym this week!
I’m enjoying the longer days and, of course, the warmer weather! This week, though, we went from really nice weather to tropical heat and humidity. The upcoming week is supposed to be very warm–I hope that isn’t a pattern that will persist!
Oh no on the hamstring… I really hope it’s not a sign of things to come. I did notice my knee feeling a bit off this morning. That made me a little nervous. It probably heard I need to start training kinda soon so it is going to rebel!
I am very much enjoying the long summer days. It’s making me stay up too late though!!
Sorry about the hamstring but it sounds like you had a good week overall! My week was pretty busy — my sister got married on Friday! It was a beautiful ceremony up in the pines.
Friday was a super busy day though as my mom and I had to get our hair done in the morning and then we went back to the Airbnb to check on my dog who we brought with us since she’s not doing very well, and then had to be back at the venue by 2 to get touchups and get ready for family photos before the wedding, and then the ceremony started at 4. I only had time for a quick walk around the cabins at the venue but the day was just go-go-go. And I haven’t gotten very good sleep the last few nights with late nights because of wedding festivities so I’m not feeling my best, but I was able to get out for a short hike with my sister and her new husband yesterday and I did another mile hike/run on my own on the trails behind the cabins after, and this morning before we had to leave. It’s been a very low mileage week for me but it was worth it to celebrate my sister!
Right now, these summers days are getting hot, and I feel like there are bugs everywhere! It’s so gross. I hate the noseeums and mosquitos and yellow flies so much, but they are just all over.
Nice week for you. And great paying attention to your body when it said to take it easy! I’m proud of you!
The summer days are good, but full. I’m anxious to be done with my video making project for Mini’s grad party so that I can do other things. I stayed up stupid late Sunday night and was able to sleep till 8 am Monday morning. Delightful part of not working in the summer. I’m also making Kay and Rae take a bus to summer school/ride a bike to swim team practice respectively – so that’s life giving.
After reading your comment on my blog, I’m still struggling with how you haven’t worn a bathing suit in years. In Florida? What? I would not survive the heat of Florida without getting in a pool several times a week. 😉
I’m enjoying the long days, except I miss sunset and sunrise pics for my photo a day project, which has gone really dull at the moment!! Glad the hamstring ended up behaving. I have a slow sprain on my ankle and it protests most when I’ve done my physio exercises, which is difficult.
