Ah, I have more to say about the wedding… but I just can’t seem to sit down and write it all out. It’s partially that I’m still working through my post-wedding letdown, and partially because it’s frustrating how few photos I took! I have no idea how long it will take to get the professional photos. The pictures I’ve already posted are ones people took and sent to me. It just shows I was really in the moment- which is good for my life, but bad for blogging.
ANYWAY! Here are a couple funny moments from the week. Two days before the wedding, a couple of aunts who had just arrived for the bridal shower were sent out on an emergency mission to Men’s Warehouse. One of the groomsmen had the wrong color suit, and Paul needed a new white shirt, because (as I overheard Isabel saying) “Apparently Paul never uses bleach, and doesn’t separate his whites and colors, so his white shirt is GRAY.’ Ha ha… I wonder who was the idiot that taught him to do laundry?
Another special moment was on the day of the wedding. We did photos first, and as we arrived, all dressed up and ready to go, the bridesmaids and groomsmen were milling around. Someone said “Hi Angie, are you excited?” Angie said “Um… about what?” Yep! That’s my daughter.
Continuing with the humor, in my post from Wednesday, where I shared that our petsitter had to deal with our pet rat who passed away while we were gone, Maria left this comment:
One last thing- two days before I left for Indiana, I had a very exciting blogger meetup!
Kae and SHU have already posted about it (since it happened so long ago) but in case anyone missed it… Kae was in town visiting Sarah, and they kindly drove up to a Starbucks near me. We had a really fun couple of hours together before I had to rush off to get things ready for my trip.

LOL about the dingy clothes. I separate my clothes into darks and lights for just this reason. I remember my mom coming to visit and doing laundry, and her saying, “Oh, I just throw all of mine in together” and thinking, “Yep, I can tell.” In retrospect, she was older in poor health, and had a shared laundry room in her building, and had to go down external stairs in Juneau, Alaska, where it is always raining or misty. And she was single so didn’t have a ton to be done at one time. Given those circumstances, I might throw them all together too. But yeah, they were all that muddy dingy color that happens. SIGH.
Throw the cat in the freezer! ACK! Yes, that’s funny, and thank god it didn’t happen while Maria was pet sitting!
When I have a big event, like a vacation or whatever, it takes me a while to write about it, even if I have a ton of pictures. I’m ready for your posts whenever, no rush.

Ha ha… well I don’t have any of your mom’s excuse and I still don’t sort my clothes! I don’t own many white things, so I’ve never noticed a problem with it. I guess now that Paul has Isabel to advise him, his white shirts will be much whiter.
Actually, none of my mom’s dingy clothes were white. They were just lighter colors. The darks that are going to bleed color are going to do it whether the top in with them is white, yellow, light blue, tan, pink, etc. I sort by color and weight…so I don’t wash anything with jeans except other jeans, or sometimes my daughter’s beat up sweat pants, because they’re already beat up. Then it’s lights and darks separately. I just think, ‘if something bled a bit on this, would it show? would I care?’ And go on from there. Maybe I overthink things…
I’m terrible at sorting clothes out too! I must teach the girls that, if I learn it myself, before they leave the house.

We had a pet sitter during the week we went traveling and that was the best money spent!
I’m still not convinced sorting the clothes is necessary! But, as I just said to Julie, I don’t own many white things so it doesn’t matter to me.
Yes, a good pet sitter helps so, so much. I always feel bad about leaving the cats (what if they think we’re dead and never coming back???) but at least they have someone coming in to keep them company a little.
Well…in theory I would separate whites if I had any. My ultimate life/laundry hack is to avoid white clothing whenever possible. As you can see, this hack is good for everything except business occasions and weddings.
Take your time on the wedding recaps! We will still be here and just as agog to get the stories when you’re ready to tell them. I often find that I need “space” between life events and blogging.
Yes, the more I think about it, I pretty much banned white clothes a while ago, because everyone kept spilling on them. So it wouldn’t make sense for me to separate colors from white because we hardly have any! I guess I never considered that there are a few things, like white dress shirts, that could be washed separately. Oh well… I’ll continue to throw them all in together : )
I rarely separate clothes- I’ve been known to do 14 loads a week ( down to 8-10 now); I don’t have time for that. My whites get dingy, but they’re mostly my husband’s undergarments, so no one’s seeing them in public. The water here is hard, so laundry is a frustrating experience anyway.
No dead pets on our watch so far; lots of pee and poop in inappropriate places though. One old cat who was incontinent – neighbors got rid of the white rugs after that! And the dog who wouldn’t go outside ( known ahead of time- so the hard wood floors got abused but withstood it!) Same neighbors, with a dog who’s gotten fearful and aggressive. But my son managed to feed him and clean up the mess without getting bitten, so win!
All the wedding stories will come when they’re ready- savor them before sharing!
Yes, in addition to the death that occurred, one of our cats apparently kept throwing up. She’ll throw up if she eats too much, and that’s very hard for a pet sitter to monitor while she’s feeding all three of them. She cleaned up all the throwup that she could find, but we think there may be more in hidden places because the house has an… odd… smell. I really have to go through and search this weekend.
Oh , that reminds me of the time our cat was sick and she was throwing up but I couldn’t find it. Finally discovered the smelly messes on the trundle bed, under another bed. How she fit in the space I do not know. Had to chuck that mattress. She was such a good girl, Jinx, I couldnt be mad.
Busted on the laundry — I toss everything in the same load. But I don’t wear white dress shirts.
So sorry to hear about your pet rat. Your pettsitter handled it well. Thank goodness Maria didn’t have to put the cat in the freezer. I get that the woman wanted to be able to take care of her cat herself, but ….
Ugh on the hot water heater. Glad your husb is taking care of it! I definitely would have had to call mine!

I sometimes separate and sometimes don’t. For the most part, I’m with Birchie in that my strategy for keeping whites white is to NOT BUY WHITE THINGS. But my son, who is the messiest in our family by far, loves to wear white shirts. He only has a few but…
I use a scoop of OxiClean powder when I run whites. If I do a mixed load (about to go put one on right now), I’ll run it on cold if there are light-coloured things in the wash.
I also laughed at Maria’s comment. How stressful!!!! Our poor Beta fish, Ferrari, is almost 2 years old (probably at least, because apparently they’re usually 6 months old when you get them from the pet store). I was so worried he would die while we were away and then even this week when we were gone and a friend was feeding him I was worried. He is showing signs of slowing down and I just didn’t want it to happen on someone else’s watch. Though a fish is admittedly a lot easier to care for after passing than a larger animal. WOW. I have gotten dark in this comment.
Back to happy things. I am so jealous of your meetup with SHU and Kae, but mostly erasing that jealousy with delight you got to spend time together <3
Regardless of the animal, it’s upsetting to find them dead. And if someone else is coming in to feed them, it would be extra bad! Glad Ferrari survived your absence.
Is it bad that I never sort laundry and wash everything on cold?
I do separate whites and colours but my sons don’t – in their defense, they don’t have many whites so they would not have enough to make a full load. I don’t have many whites either, but our towels are all cream-coloured, so if I do have a white clothing item I will put it in with the towels.
“Just put her in the freezer” – lol. Better to be forewarned!
Yes! I actually wish I had thought of that with the rat. Although… it would have been depressing to come home from the wedding to a dead rat in the freezer, so… I’m grateful that it worked out this way (for my sake, not the pet sitter’s!)
I don’t really have many white clothes but I wash things together by category, like athletic wear all gets washed together because it tends to be sweatier than my other clothes.
I’m excited to read more about the wedding whenever you want to post about it! I took some photos during my sister’s wedding (not during the ceremony but the rest of the time) but wasn’t able to post about it on social media until the professional photos came in, which was about a month later.
Yes, I should probably wash my running clothes separately! But then I’d be running a really small load, or waiting a long time to do a load… my current system definitely has its flaws though.
I do separate but my hubby does not.
I recently cat sat for a friend. I had a very early race and so I decided to feed the cats the night before. I was supposed to remove the newspaper from the plastic bag because the cat eats the bag. I could not because the paper had not been delivered.yet. I was nervous but no one mentioned it. Phew.
Yes, pet sitting can be stressful! You don’t want to be responsible for something going wrong with someone else’s cats.
I don’t have any whites… so I don’t separate clothing. Everything just goes in one big pile and we’ve had no issues. I always wash things on cold, too. But if I had enough whites to warrant it’s only load, I would separate them out. I used to separate things more before moving in with Phil and he did not think it was necessary, so I stopped sorting things and haven’t looked back! He does wear white athletic socks, but they don’t look dingy and if they did – oh well, they are socks!
Hopefully the photographer will post a “sneak peak” post on IG or their website? I would guess 4-6 weeks before you’ll get photos back! It takes quite awhile for them to go through everything/edit/etc! We’ll be patient in the meantime.
You know what one of my least favorite questions is? “Are you excited?” Because I would so rarely say I feel “excited” about things. I swear I am a normalish person but my mood is so steady eddy that it’s rare for me to feel “excited.” I look forward to things, but in a very low key way. So I basically lie when people ask if I am excited about something… I was excited for my wedding, though, but it was a once in a lifetime kind of situation.
So here’s the thing. Angie needs people to be very specific, because she takes everything very literally. So she really didn’t know what they meant- was she excited about the photos? That Paul is getting married? Excited about the reception? And, maybe, like you, she doesn’t get super excited about things. I felt kind of bad that everyone laughed when she said that, but it did sound funny at the time. I want to talk to her about it now and see if she felt bad.
I would DEFINITELY not separate whites just for athletic socks! And I’m glad to hear that there’s someone else who doesn’t separate and washes on cold- I mean, I think my clothes look just fine! With the possible exception of white dress shirts, apparently.
