EEEE! My race is TOMORROW! I have to runfess that the world sounds like this to me right now: “Blah blah blah blah MY RACE blah blah blah blah RACE blah blah…” It’s hard to think of anything else. But, it’s the last Friday of the month, which means I’m joining Marcia for runfessions. Let’s see what else I have to runfess this month…
As much as I’m focused on my race, I also realize THERE WILL BE A TIME AFTER THIS. Is one week enough time to recover so I can run this one? :

I mean- how fun is that?!! Somehow I crazily thought this would be on May 5th, i.e. Monday night. But it’s Sunday, May 4th at 8 am. Hmmm… I runfess that I’m not sure I want beer and tacos at 8 am on a Sunday morning. Honestly, I’ll probably be in no condition to run it anyway. I’m already having a little FOMO though.
Speaking of a time after this, I runfess that I’m wondering how I’m going to rehab my hamstring when this race is over. I’ve been completely focused on getting to the race in one piece, with vague plans to rest afterwards. But yesterday my sports chiropractor (who has been working tirelessly to keep my hamstring going) said “Resting will put out the fire, but it won’t rebuild the house that burned down.” Yes, I’ll have some rebuilding to do.
My last runfession is that, regardless of how this race goes, I WILL be treating myself to a giant Coke Zero for the drive home on Sunday, muahahahahaha! No one can stop me.
Tune in on Sunday for the Weekly Rundown- I’ll share the race results then!
What is your “treat” for a long car ride? (This drive is about four hours).
Would you drink beer (or a margarita???) after a Sunday morning race?

YOU GOT THIS! I can’t wait to hear how you rock this race!!!!
My treat is a good old fashion Diet Coke. Not a Coke Zero, just a regular Diet Coke. I almost never drink them anymore but I always enjoy one when I do.
I’ll take a Diet Coke! For some reason I like Coke Zero better. Thanks for all the support Noemi!
SO excited for you!! Sending all my best wishes for a great fun experience.
Enjoy your Coke Zero (and Subway if you can find it)! XOXO
Thank you Maya! There may be Subway involved : )
You are ready to tackle this! and yes, enjoy whatever drink you want after it and worry about the repair later. After a long run, i always crave more LMNT water and big bowl of oatmeal.
I’m definitely bringing LMNT with me (and actually sipping on some all day today). It’s going to be a hot, hot race.
That chiropractor’s analogy is spot on. Such a powerful reminder that rest alone isn’t the full solution.
Wishing you an amazing race, Jenny! Can’t wait to read your recap!
Thank you so much Catrina! And yes- my chiro is very wise.
Hee hee I like the theory of running Cinqo de Drinko and having a margarita at 8 in the morning, but the reality is that it would make me feel awful for the rest of the day. If there was ever a case for walking a 5k, this would be it.
Have a blast tomorrow and enjoy every one of those 50 miles!
Thank you Birchie! I will keep that in mind- I will ENJOY this!
Yeah- or maybe Cinco de Drinko would be better if I were 20 years old? Drinking a margarita at 8 am would definitely wreck my day now.
I’m so excited for you! Blah, blah, blah, YOU GOT THIS! Blah, blah, blah.
I think I’d have to run more than 5k to want a beer in the morning — let alone a taco. Also, I’m not sure “taco trot” is a great name ….
Ouch on those words from your chiro. Do you have access to a PT? What I learned is that the hamstring responds to work. So once the fire is out, some work is good — PT exercises, walk/run interval, etc.
Blah, blah, blah, YOU GOT THIS! Blah, blah, blah.
Ha ha, thanks so much Coco! I do remember when I had hamstring issues in the past, gentle strength training was prescribed. We’ll see how bad it is after the race!
And hee hee… the “taco trot” is a smaller race for kids, I think. I actually like that name.
Have a great race Jenny! OMH Cinco de Drinko sounds hilarous! But no, I would not be partaking of any “drinko” after a race. Ha! A Coke Zero sounds like an excellent treat!
Thank you Marcia! And- I kind of want to do Cinso just for the experience. Probably a bad idea though.
Sooooooooo excited for you! You are gonna do great and I can’t wait for the recap!
I would probably treat myself to an Olipop or one of the LMNT sparkling waters because I always crave carbonation and more salt after a long, hot run.
I am bringing LMNT along- we’ll see what I feel like. I also like Olipops. Thanks for all your encouragement and support!
You will do great! Excited to hear all about it!
Thank you so much Melodie! You will hear ALL about it!!!
Wait, your treat is a Coke Zero? That…feels unlike a treat to me, but I’m not going to yuck your yum! You enjoy the hell out of that Coke Zero!
Oooh this: “Resting will put out the fire, but it won’t rebuild the house that burned down.” true story. I hope you and he can figure out a good rehab after your race.
Good luck Jenny!!! I’ll be cheering for you! I personally think the Cinco de Drinko sounds more fun! Maybe you can walk it?
I am sending you all the good vibes for this weekend-excited for you! I hope you give yourself time to rebuild afterwards. PS-my treat would be something more indulgent than a Coke Zero lol
Have a great race!
Best of luck, Jenny!! I can’t wait to hear all about it!
We take road trip snacks so seriously, haha! I usually go for chocolate covered pretzels and wintergreen tic tacs (team sweet and salty all the way haha).
I cannot wait to hear all about the race, Jenny. That Coke is going to taste sooooo good.
We don’t tend to eat many snacks on road trips, but I think something like trailmix would be my go-to. Delicious but not too messy!
I rarely drink pop, but my favourite is definitely European Fanta (it’s better than NAmerican).
Maybe a mimosa but would probably wait until dinner. Not usually a fan of soda although after a hard race, I did find out that it taste good!
Starbucks is my treat and of course ice cream.
Ha ha Cinco de Drinko! I’d probably indulge in a Cherry Coke myself (with full-on sugar) for a long rive post-race. That would involve a few potty sops, though…which would be good for stretching the legs anyways. Wishing you all the best tomorrow!
Yay very excited for you – I hope you have the best day out there!
Cinco de Drinko does dound like a lot of fun – I’m a huge Margs fan but not sure how well that would go down after a race. I usually indulge in ice cream, especially if it’s been a hot one.
Alcohol in the morning is so unappealing! At the Twin Cities marathon, you can have a beer at the finish line. I can’t drink beer due to being gluten intolerant but no alcohol beverage sounds good to me after running any amount of mileage! So hard pass over here! But tacos on the other hand sound like a great post-race meal… but preferably not in the morning!
I hope you have a wonderful race experience and that your hamstring does not bug you too much. Does your chiro have suggestions on how to rehab it?
