walkers walk… but runners fly

May Madness

I’ve mentioned that I’ve been in a blogging, and life, slump. Nothing is wrong! Everything is just fine. But nothing feels special. There’s nothing to get excited about, other than, of course, my son’s wedding at the end of July!

Obviously, that’s a VERY exciting event. So exciting that I constantly find my mind skipping ahead to the wedding. But as we know- EVERY DAY COUNTS. The days between now and July 25th are just as precious as any other day. Furthermore, if I let time fly in this way, by the time we get back from the wedding my daughter will be starting her senior year. These are days I especially want to savor! But… easier said than done.

I decided I need a project. Since blogging has been difficult, I’m going to get myself out of this rut by blogging every day for the month of May. I KNOW. I know how excited you are- think of all the cat photos you’re going to see!

Seriously, I’m going to focus on good things, funny things, anything I’m noticing that makes the days distinct from one another. Well… there might be some cat photos as well.

I’ll be kicking off this project tomorrow, with an Ultimate Coffee Date post. See you in May!

The first thing I should runfess is that I seem to have forgotten what month it is. When I went to write

You guys, I can’t shake off this feeling of… ennui? Listlessness? Those words seem too strong. It’s not like I’m

  1. YASSSSS!!!!! Your life slump is our gain! I’d take a daily blogging streak from you anytime, but exactly six months out from NaBloPo really fits the calendar.

My take as a spectator is that you just completed a major goal (60 mile race) and you have a major life event coming up (wedding), so it makes sense that things are a little saggy right now. There is nothing wrong with taking a beat to chill, but selfishly I’m glad that you are blogging every day instead. If you ever run out of topics or our crunched for time, a cat picture or two is all that you need for a post.

    1. Thank you Birchie! Yes, it’s like “Christmas in July,” but “NaBloPoMo in May.” Maybe it will become a thing.

  2. Put me down for some cat pictures any time.
Also-SAME. I am feeling the SAAAAAME. All is well and YET.. What’s wrong with me?…

  3. I’ve heard a variation of that so many times lately, that if you do nothing special, time passes quickly, but if you do something exciting now and then and allow yourself to have experiences, then you experience time differently and that life seems slower. That inspired me to do more fun, more special things and make myself savour those things lots more. We tend to get stuck too much in routines, which is good but we need to do more than that!
I like the idea of blogging every day in May to get out of the slump, I remember you told me that in November, that it actually helps to write more. I’ve been thinking of doing something like that myself, on my other blog, have a photo-of-the-day kind of project.
You can never go wrong with cat photos!!!

    1. Yes, somehow in November, writing more gave me more and more ideas of things to write about. I think a photo of the day project would be great for you!

  4. I’m always happy for cat pictures! I have never blogged every day for a month and I know that’s something I could never do… These days I’m posting about once/week and sometimes that even feels like a stretch. I’m definitely still in a slump of sorts for no good reason. It will help when the weather gets straightened out. It was 35 this am and our high is in the 40s. What in the world. Get your act together, mother nature.

    1. Oh yes, I remember that weather in the midwest- SO frustrating because you feel like it should be summer! And dreary weather will definitely put you in a slump.

  5. Oh my gosh, this is so ironic- I have been mulling this same idea over too! I feel like I had a big stretch of VERY LONG posts (travel recaps..) and then some other longer/ recappy type posts, etc., and I’ve been feeling an itch to write some more shorter, journal style, informal posts, like I tend to do during NaBloPoMo. I think sometimes I feel like I have to have some “significant” to write about- an event, a topic, etc.- and I can feel funny just popping on to write some random gibberish. lol. Or, I feel this pull to write a lot, but I don’t have TIME to write a lot, so then I write nothing instead. The last few days I was like, hm, maybe I should do a SHORT daily post in May, forcing myself to keep it brief – which I am admittedly so bad at, so it’s a good exercise for me, too. I can be your May blogging buddy if you want!! 🙂 🙂

    1. YESYESYES!!! That would be so fun!!! During NaBloPoMo I aim to keep my posts around 500 words, and that’s what I’ll do this time as well. Be my May blogging buddy!

  6. What if we all did NaBloPoMo in DIFFERENT MONTHS. Like take the 12 months and divide it up? So only a few people would be posting every day! Wouldn’t that be AWESOME? I am looking forward to your daily posts in May, and lots of cat photos. <3

    1. I love the camaraderie of all doing NaBloPoMo together- BUT, I agree it’s hard to post every day AND keep up with everyone else’s posts. It would be kind of fun to spread it out, and keep the NaBloPoMo fever going year round.
