walkers walk… but runners fly

Things That Make Me Go “Hmmm…”

Hello everyone and happy Friday!  Today I’m sharing a few things that baffle me… and I’m interested to hear your opinions on them as well!  Here we go…

Sports bras with removable pads.

I don’t understand this concept.  I have three bras right now that I love, except for the removable pads.  Why are they removable?  Every time I put them on, I have to adjust the pads, which have bunched up in the wash.  Sometimes they come out completely in the washing machine.

There are worse things in the world, but I don’t understand the point of making the pads removable.  I’ve tried removing them completely, but then the bras just don’t look right.  Are there people who like the fact that you can take them out?  Is it cheaper for them to make it this way?  Could I pay five extra dollars to get the pads to stay in place?

I guess the solution is to make sure the bras I buy in the future do not have this feature.  It just irks me that bras I otherwise love, have these pads.  Grr.

Why.

Re-wearable workout clothes?

With all the anti-odor technologies for workout clothes now, I’m noticing that it’s a “thing” to wear them several times before washing.  Now, I get this in a way- if I do a short yoga flow and don’t sweat, I’ll wear those clothes again.

But running clothes???

On the Let’sRun forum, people are confessing that they wear their socks 4-5 times before washing them.  One guy said that after a run he puts all his clothes in the dryer for 20 minutes with a Bounce sheet, then washes everything after three or four runs.

Ew.

A couple people pointed out that it’s better for the environment to do less laundry, and some people said they were trying to preserve the expensive fabrics of their clothes by not washing them as often.  Okay… I get that, but…

I think I’ll just stick with doing things the old fashioned way- I throw my clothes into the laundry and do wash multiple times a week.

Wearing your running clothes all day.

I see this all the time!  Just yesterday the amazing Janae, of Hungry Runner Girl, posted about her awesome workout- 20x400s at the track. Eesh!

Then she took her kids to a gym class, and after that met a friend for lunch.  As she said, “just one of those days you are still in your running clothes until 2 pm.”  Now…

No criticism of Janae at all here, because she always looks beautiful and her running clothes are so cute.  And I’m sure she doesn’t smell as bad as I would if I tried to do that.  But I would be SO UNCOMFORTABLE.  Maybe it’s because I live in Florida where every run is a sweatfest, but I can’t stand being in my running clothes once I’m done running.

At the very, very least I need to change out of my soaking wet clothes.  If I’m in a hurry and can’t take a full shower, I give myself a quick rinse.   I would be so miserable if I had to wear my running clothes for hours and hours.

Get these off me!

Do you re-wear running clothes, or wear them all day? –No judgment if you do… I’m just curious to know how you make that work!

Removable pads… yes or no?

  1. The removable pads don’t annoy me too much. I wash all my bras in mess bags, and that seems to keep things “in place” pretty well. I sometimes wear my running shorts a second time (or save them for a bike ride), but the tops usually need to be washed each time. In the winter, I’m a little more lax with that, though. Socks worn over & over again, though? EWW!!!!

  2. You and I are 3 for 3 on these!
    – I detest the removable cups! Sadly I’ve found that it’s less trouble to remove the pads before washing and then put them back in afterwards than it is to “debunch” them after the wash (and just so we’re clear, yes I was the pads as well). I was excited to find some “padless” sports bras at Old Navy a few months ago but they chaffed me so I’m stuck with what I’ve got. I’ve thought about trying to sew the pads in place but have just never gotten around to it.

    – I runfess that when I was young and broke I used to rewear workout clothes for an entire week b/c I didn’t have enough to get between washings. Let’s just say that I did a lot of things when I was young that I wouldn’t do today.

    – And finally, I can’t stand wearing my workout clothes when I’m not working out! I don’t even like changing into clean ones too much in advance of the run.

    1. That’s funny, I’ve thought about sewing the pads in as well- but since I don’t really know how to sew it probably wouldn’t go well.

  3. I thought the same when read that in Janae‘s post! I could never have lunch in my running clothes. I’d feel so uncomfortable.
And I wash all my running stuff after wearing them once. Allege laundry is annoying though 😊

    1. I’m just used to doing a ton of laundry. I might feel differently about this if I had to go to a laundromat, but since my washer/dryer is in my garage it’s really not that bad.

  4. Yes I hate those pads.

Nope I only wear everything once.

I run after work so I do wear my running clothes all day. But they’re not sweaty.

    1. So you mean you wear your running clothes all day, then run in them after work? I wouldn’t even do that- for whatever reason, I don’t like to wear my running clothes unless I’m actually running. Even if they’re not sweaty.

  5. I have seen people complaining that the bras even have pads, but they are a game changer for me. Hello not looking like a boy! 🤣 Mesh bags do seem to keep them mostly in place but I still struggle a bit.
As for rewearing my clothes, I do that. I hang everything to dry after each run. The bra, shirt and shorts could get reworn if they pass the sniff test! I have been known to grab socks out of the wash but not very often. My feet don’t sweat much!
After my long runs on Saturday it does seem to take me until after noon until I finally get around to a shower. The morning just flies by and I would definitely run errands on the way back home if I drove to a run. It’s not ideal, but I’ll do it to save time! 🤷🏼‍♀️

    1. Aha! So you’re one of “those” people! I have to admit that on Friday I didn’t have time to change after my run and took my daughter to school in my sweaty running clothes. I don’t know… maybe I just sweat too much.

  6. Hah! I’m with you on all of these. I’ve re-worn running clothes on winter business trips when that one top was just right for the weather, but it’s not something I’d do at home. I can’t stand being in sweaty clothes. If I can’t shower right away, I still need to change.

  7. Mmh, I don’t know why sports bras have pads at all… LOL but that comes from someone who doesn’t need any “extra” when it comes to bust size. I’d prefer there were no pads at all – or two versions, one with pads one without pads. I guess I get that them being removable doesn’t really make any sense.

I could also NOT stay in my running clothes all day. I mean, once in a while, when I am not soaked after a workout, I’ll wait to change until maybe other chores are done (like mopping at home), but I usually change out of my workout clothes immediately.

    1. Yes, I am totally with you- I’m just so uncomfortable in my clothes after a run. I guess maybe some people don’t sweat as much?
