walkers walk… but runners fly

Weekly Rundown- Ending on a High Note

Hey there! This week started with some pretty grim StairMaster workouts, but ended with RUNNING! Hooray! Thanks as always to Kim and Deborah for hosting the Weekly Rundown. When we left off last week, I was nursing a sore hip/hamstring. Let’s just see how the week went…

Sunday

I started the day with a 40 minute walk…

and later on did an arm and shoulder workout.

Monday

45 minutes on the StairMaster…

and later, yoga for low back pain and hip mobility exercises.

Tuesday

a 40 minute walk in the morning…

Walking pictures look weird.

and then a lower body strength workout- lots of bodyweight exercises, weighted squats, NO lunges (because I’m never doing lunges again). Later I felt so antsy that I got out for a second 40 minute walk.

Wednesday

One hour on the StairMaster! It wasn’t as bad as you might be thinking… well, okay, it was pretty bad.

Grr.

Later in the day- more yoga and stretching.

Thursday

Enough is enough! Let’s try some running.

3 miles of running/walking. The hamstring felt fine. My hip felt… funny, but not too painful to run. VICTORY.

Later in the day… shoulder workout.

Friday

Another lower body workout of bodyweight only, plus core. I also did some hip exercises I remembered from the last time I did PT.

Saturday

Okay, let’s do this! 4 mile run, and things felt pretty good. My hip just felt very stiff, but got better as the run went on.

Later in the day… more yoga and stretching.

Sunday

On tap… a walk, arm and shoulder workout, hip PT exercises and stretching.

So, what’s the verdict? I think the hip needs some rehab, but I can continue to run while I take care of it. That’s good timing, because next week I’ll be out of town, and won’t have access to a gym (I won’t miss the StairMaster).

ON THAT NOTE… my son’s wedding is SATURDAY. There’s a strong possibility that I won’t do a Weekly Rundown post next Sunday, but I’ll be back the next week with all the wedding details!

How was your week?

What was the last wedding you went to?

  1. Yay for a run! Sounds like you’ve figured out a workable pattern for the hip issue. And have fun at the WEDDING!
Last wedding was my daughter’s celebration- ceremony inside a garden/arboretum thing, reception at tapas restaurant. Lovely day. My sister and I took my younger kids out after a bit so we could go get them pizza. Assorted reasons but my daughter knew and was okay with it.
    Safe travels!

    1. Thank you! Your daughter’s ceremony does sound lovely. Ooh, I’m wondering if there are going to be any young kids at our wedding… none that I have to take care of, at least!

    1. The wedding is next Saturday, but I’ll take all congratulations at any time! You will be hearing plenty of details.

  2. Woohoo! Yay for the running and the WEDDING!

My PT has me doing a very passive hip flexor stretch where I lay on my back with my body half off the table and dangle my leg off the side — maybe that would feel good for you too.

    1. Oh, that would feel good. I’m always stretching my hip flexors and that sounds like a good one. I got good ideas from your blog post today!

    2. Ahh I can’t believe the wedding is just one week away! I don’t blame you for not posting next Sunday. Hopefully the hip feels normal soon. I cannot imagine one hour of steps!!!

  3. I can’t remember the last wedding I went to. It’s… been a while. I watched my niece’s wedding on a live stream, does that count?? Sadly, I’ve been to more funerals in recent years than weddings.

    OKAY. This is getting sad.

Well, if your big family wedding is in a week, it means I’m exactly 1 week from my 17th wedding anniversary! We’re celebrating this week by sending both kids off to sleepaway camp. My daughter is a leader, my son is a camper and I cannot wait for FIVE NIGHTS with no children in the house. I’d say it’s time to party, but mostly I’m looking forward to silence. That’s my version of partying.

I cannot wait to see pictures and hear all sorts of details about the wedding. Have the BEST time and I’m glad that you’re able to run. Take it slow and steady, but I’m sure it was disregulating to be coming up to something so massive as a wedding and not be able to run for some stress relief and stabilizing.

Hugs, my friend. I am nothing but full of joy as I think about this special wedding <3

    1. Thank you Elisabeth!!! I also haven’t been to a wedding in AGES. Your anniversary celebration (five nights with no kids) sounds amazing. ENJOY!

  4. Yay wedding week is here! Hope you all have the most fabulous weekend. Can’t wait to hear all about it. Hope you continue to feel good 🙂

  5. Have so much fun at your son’s wedding! Congrats to all! I hope that in addition to the wedding, you’ll have time to do some other fun things while in Indiana.

That sounds like good news that you were able to run and your hip only felt “funny,” not painful. I think you’re smart to continue your PT type work on the hip while you ease back into running. Fingers crossed all goes well!

    1. Thank you Debbie!!! Yes, I’ll take a funny feeling hip any day- it’s talking to me just enough to remind me to do my exercises. It turns out that I’ll be busier than I thought once I get to Indiana, so not sure if I’ll do anything other than wedding prep. But- that will be fun enough!

  6. Oh my gosh! So many wonderful things! I’m so happy that you are running! And the wedding! Eeek! I can’t wait for details! It’s going to be beautiful in every way!

The last wedding I attended was in June, and it was an EVENT. I needed a week to recover from all the festivities!

Have fun and we will “see” you blogging when you’re back!

  7. I am glad you are feeling better and were able to run! I hope that continues to be the case.

Hooray it’s wedding week!! I hope everything goes smoothly and that you find someone to do your hair! We rarely go to weddings anymore as nearly all of our friends and most of my cousins were married before me. The last wedding was my cousin’s, I think in 2019! But my nephew is getting married next June so we have that to look forward to. It will be the boys’ first wedding (if kids are invited which I have a feeling they will).

    1. Ha! I asked my sister if she could do my hair, and she said she’s terrible at things like that but her husband could attempt it if he watches a Youtube video. Ha, should be interesting!

  8. My hips feel stuff every morning but it goes away once I start moving.

I’ve never used a stairmaster but it doesn’t look fun.

Cna’t wait to hear how the wedding goes. My last one was my stepson’s.

    1. Well, continue to avoid the StairMaster if you can. But I will say it gives you a good workout! And… don’t worry everyone will be hearing ALL about the wedding! Probably more than you even want to know ; )

  9. Why yes, I have just attended a wedding! But before that wedding, it has been years. I hope you have a smooth, stress free trip and the wedding goes off without a hitch! It will of course, no need to worry about it 🙂
Good to hear you are back to running too! Let’s hope that hip stays quiet.

    1. Yep, hoping for a quiet hip and a stress-free wedding! I’m sure there will be some angst leading up to it- there always is- but everything will be fine.

  10. I can’t believe the wedding is this coming weekend! I hope it’s everything your son and his fiancée want it to be and that you have a wonderful time. I can’t wait to hear how it went!
Also excited that you were able to run today! Woot!
