After a less-than-stellar last week, this week I got back on track (although not back on THE track, as the top photo might suggest). My plan was four runs and four Iron Series workouts, and I did it! I wish I had done a little more yoga… but we’ll get to that. Thanks as always to Kim and Deborah for hosting the Weekly Rundown. Here we go…
Sunday
After a missed workout on Saturday due to oversleeping (sigh), I did that workout first thing Sunday morning, Iron Series Day #14, full body workout. I had already done Day #15 earlier in the week, so now I’m all set to continue on with Day #16. I know- it’s confusing.
Monday
In the morning I did Adriene’s yoga for lower back pain. In the afternoon, I ran 4 miles. This might have been my last afternoon run outside until next winter- the only reason I was able to do it in the heat is that it was overcast.

Tuesday
In the morning I did Iron Series Day #16, hamstrings. Then, because I knew Wednesday was going to be a crazy day, I got out for a run later in the afternoon. Okay, THIS was my last afternoon run outside until winter.

Wednesday
Today was special! I had a mammogram, breast ultrasound, bone density scan, and then took Sylvie to the vet for her last round of shots. In the morning I did yoga for low back pain again, and later in the day I did Iron Series Day #17, which was upper body.
Thursday
Just to switch things up, I started the day with Adriene’s yoga for lower back mobility. Then later in the day, I went to the gym and ran 4 miles on the treadmill, throwing in a little speed work.

Friday
Iron Series Day #18 is a special one! It’s a glute workout with a million lunges and hip thrusts. Here’s a question- shouldn’t a one leg hip thrust be twice as hard as with two legs? Why does it feel ten times harder??? My legs were literally shaking after this workout.
Saturday
4 mile treadmill run!

And I followed it with core. I know core is involved in the Iron Series workouts I’ve been doing, but I’m starting to miss the core-only workouts. While doing some leg lifts I could feel my left hip flexor. Something feels tight there, and I think it’s traveling down my leg and making that left knee tight. I need to do more yoga!
Sunday
Happy Mother’s Day! I’ve mentioned that I’m not a big fan of this holiday, as it’s not a happy day for everyone. But, my husband has volunteered to cook dinner, and I’m going to tell my daughter she isn’t allowed to yell at me. So it should be a good day! At some point I’ll do the next Iron Series workout, Day #19, which is full body.
How was your week?
Are you celebrating Mother’s Day?

I also dislike Mother’s Day. I lost my mom a while back and it always feel like pressure to make everyone else feel like they are making you happy (does that make sense?). But, tomorrow I am going to see Sheep Detective with a friend and my daughter and I’m excited about that. I haven’t been to the movies in a long time and may have to make this a weekly or bi-weekly date! 🙂 I had a bit of a rough week. Canvas (our learning management system) was down – you probably heard about it – and it made everyone a little stressed since we were going into finals week. And my daughter had a panic attack at work and called me sobbing from the bathroom and that was stressful. I am hoping for a calm week this week!
Yes, I know exactly what you mean- I feel obligated to make sure everyone knows I’m having a nice Mother’s Day. I wonder if that’s just a “mom” thing! I’ll bet men don’t feel like that on Father’s Day!
Yes, I have heard about Canvas- how stressful for SO MANY PEOPLE. I hope your daughter is feeling better, that you guys enjoy the movie, and that you have a nice, calm day and week ahead!
iron series is hard but effective. in my new gym, I do a lot of compound movement but with other ladies, good music and fun encouragement’s so they are less boring.
will see what mothers day waits for me, hopefully just a quiet relaxing day.
Yes! A quiet, relaxing day sounds perfect. And- your new strength workouts do sound fun. I’m enjoying doing mine right at home, but I imagine eventually they’re get boring.
Nice work in the gym! But yes, the rehab is just as important! I need to do more core.
I don’t dislike Mother’s Day, but as an infertility patient, I certainly understand how hard it can be for people. For me, it’s a day to be grateful for my mom and for the gift of being a mom. We’re just having my boys (and the girls) over for dinner. I’m looking forward to it.
Yes, we have a lot to feel grateful for! Not everyone does, but that’s not a reason to appreciate how lucky we are.Hope you have a nice day!
Nice job getting in that iron series workout! You have me so curious about it. Hope you’re able to enjoy your day today! I have a love-hate relationship with Mother’s day. I always have to travel for work on the day, so I always feel bad missing it because my kids are sad, especially my daughter.
It’s odd that you ALWAYS travel for work on Mother’s Day! That doesn’t seem right. I mean I wouldn’t mind it but it’s sad that your daughter is sad.
I think you would like the Iron Series workouts- they’re relatively short, but intense, and you can do them right at home. And they’re free! You should try one and see what you think.
Agree, Mother’s Day is complicated. Let’s call it “Hubs Cooks Dinner and Teenager Watches Her Mouth Day” – that’s much better!
Congrats on another week of solid off-season strength investments. You’re going to see that pay off this fall.
Thanks Birchie! And I like your renaming of the day. Now we just need a card for it.
Glad to see you had a much better week all around! Happy Mother’s Day to you. We are having a low key dinner with my son tonight and that works for me
Low key is good! I hope you’re going out and not cooking.
LOL, I hope your daughter sticks to your Mother’s Day rule. It’s not a day I am excited about either. I think there are so many expectations the day just can’t live up to, even in the best of family situations.
I hope the weather surprises you with more days you can run outside in the afternoon. We’ve still had long-sleeve weather, although today I could have worn short sleeves.
Ahhh… long sleeve weather. I miss those days. And, I agree with your assessment of Mother’s Day. It’s easier for me to just not make that big a deal of it.
You seem to be doing great with your strength training! That iron series sounds quite tough! Especially with a full hamstrings-only workout, and all those lunges in one session! Well done and fitting in some running too.
I’ve been reading your posts earlier in the week and I can’t get over how big Sylvie has become! Wasn’t she like 4 weeks old just recently??
I KNOW! She’s getting so, so big! It makes me a little sad- I want her to stay a tiny kitten forever. They really grow fast, don’t they?
Yes, the hard thing about the Iron workouts is that they tend to focus so much on one area. There was a shoulder one, where afterwards I took a shower and could barely get my hair washed- my arms were so exhausted I couldn’t lift my hands to my head, lol.
I hope your day goes well 😉 I agree that the holiday can be complicated. I have a difficult relationship with my mother (I think she’s suffered for years with undiagnosed depression and anxiety). She has the attitude that Mother’s Day is for her (since she’s the mom), and I’m still just one of the daughters. The fact that I’ve been a mom for almost 32 years is irrelevant to her, LOL.It is what it is, and I can at least laugh about it…and I’m SO grateful for the three kiddos who call me “mom.”
Yes, that does sound complicated! Who came up with this holiday, anyway??? Anyway- sounds like you have a good attitude, and I hope you enjoy your day!
I’m a relatively new reader, so apologies if this has been asked and answered! How did you get into running? And how long have you been doing it? Did you expect to be running ultra long races when you began? I’m alway seriously impressed with your athleticism!
I’m glad you had a good week of workouts! My week did not go as expected. I started my race on Wednesday night but it ended Wednesday at the 50K point because my feet were so sore that I was falling a few times coming down a steep rocky trail in the dark and I knew the next 9 mile section was just as rocky and I didn’t want to risk getting seriously hurt by falling again. So it was a DNF, and disappointing as I know I could have gone further but it wasn’t my day. But I was able to make the best of it as my dad and I stayed in Sedona the next two nights and got to enjoy the area, do a couple of wine tastings Thursday and a short hike Friday before heading back.
I hope you enjoy Mother’s Day, though I know it can be complicated! I’m lucky to be able to celebrate it with my mom this year — we got bagels (with vegan cream cheese!) this morning and will do some pool time this afternoon.
Meant to say I started the race Wednesday morning and it ended Wednesday night haha
You know how I feel about Mother’s Day. I could do without it. But I have had a good day overall. Phil took Paul to his mom’s so I’ve had lots of 1:1 time with Will.
Nice work on your workouts! I cannot do the single leg hip thrusts from an elevated position. I have to move to the floor. It makes me feel like a wimp but my form really suffers if I do them the way they are demo’d!!
Enjoy your night off from cooking! I hope Angie did not yell at your. The boys have had less than stellar behavior at times today because we stayed out later than usual last night. Eeks.
Great job on all of your workouts last week!
I’ve always thought of Mother’s Day as a chill day for moms so I kind of like it. Hope your husband and daughter made your Mother’s Day relaxing! And to answer your question, I celebrated Mother’s Day working outside in my yard and gardens (in my happy place). We went out for dinner last night with the kids.
My birthday s always on, day before or after Mother’s Day. So I get ignored from my family. This year was no exception.
At least I went for a run…
Glad you are back on track.
On track? not sure what that is. LOL
