walkers walk… but runners fly

Weekly Rundown- Non-Running Edition

Man, this is going to be boring! I really haven’t done much since my EPIC ADVENTURE last Saturday. I didn’t have any specific recovery plan for this week, figuring I would play it by ear. The lack of workouts isn’t stopping me from joining Kim and Deborah for the Weekly Rundown though! Here’s how the week played out.

Monday

OFF. It was my second day off work and second full recovery day. There was lots of this:

Reading, blogging, and cat snuggles.

Tuesday

Sigh! All good things must come to an end, and it was back to work. In the morning I did Adriene’s yoga for lower back mobility.

Wednesday

I started the day with Adriene’s yoga for hips and lower back release. Later in the day I walked for 30 minutes.

Thursday

It was a triple yoga day! In the morning I did Adriene’s yoga for lower back pain. Later in the day I did her lower back mobility routine again, as well as her quad release. Ooh, I needed this one- my quads are STILL sore from Saturday!

Friday

I walked for an hour while talking to my son! No photo because I was still talking to him as I returned home and puttered around the house. We had a LOT to say! He and his finacee arrive on Tuesday, and we can’t wait to see them.

More cat snuggles! This was the first time Muffin condescended to lie on the same couch as Sylvie. I like how she has her back turned though, ha ha. And look how big Sylvie is getting! She’s still a baby, but when she stretches out she looks so long.

Saturday

Frantic cleaning. My “Make the House Great Again” project has devolved into “Make the House Okay Again.” I’ve really been slacking off, but it will be… okay. Not great.

I also did yoga for quad release again. My quads are almost back to normal.

Sunday

Oh tap for today- more cleaning. My daughter dyed her hair again, and also managed to dye the entire bathroom dark purple… then she left on a band trip to New Orleans. SIGH.

I’ll also do some food prep, and get out for a nice walk. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll feel like running again soon!

How was your week? Are you training for anything right now?

You guys, I can’t shake off this feeling of… ennui? Listlessness? Those words seem too strong. It’s not like I’m

It’s Earth Week!

Hi there! Once again it’s time for Tuesday Topics, and this week’s prompt is: It’s Earth Week. How do you stay

Five Things

Happy Friday! I’m sharing five random things today. First up… Inspired by Stephany’s reading crawl, I decided to make Wednesday, my

  1. It’s been birthday weekend here. Our daughter turns 30 today (Sunday)! Thursday we went to a fancy dinner, Friday she and I went to Berkeley to look at books, sell some clothes to a consignment store, and have lunch. Saturday was a family birthday party, and Sunday we are going to take sandwiches from her favorite place to a hike around a local reservoir.

I think your week has been really good, taking care of yourself with walking and yoga sounds PERFECT. <3

    1. Oh, Happy Birthday to your daughter (a fellow Aries!) Sounds like a fun celebration.
Yes, the walking and yoga were perfect for this week. I had no desire for anything more strenuous!

  2. THEY’RE COMING TO VISIT. How exciting.
I don’t think I could pull off purple hair, but I do love the colour. Can’t wait to see a picture of it (though I’m sure you’re not thrilled with having to clean up after the dye job).

    1. I’ll definitely have to include a photo of the hair! It looks good on her. And the bathroom. Just kidding- the bathroom does NOT look good all purple.

  3. Cats on couches- the best! I just want to rub that soft kitten belly. ( though I know not every cat enjoys it- does Foxy like tummy rubs? Some of my cats love it, one would punish any miscreant who had the gall to touch her belly .)
Good luck cleaning! I always start off with big plans for making the house shine, and then start rationalizing cutting corners. Unlike my husband, who redid a bathroom and painted our porch before my son’s girlfriend visited in the summer. (And they broke up a few weeks after the visit- all that hard work didn’t impress her.)

    1. Hahahahahaha… that’s a funny story. We won’t be redoing the bathroom or painting anything. I’m definitely in the cutting corners phase.
If I rub Foxy’s belly, he takes it as a sign I want to play, and attacks my hand. Muffin is more mellow, Sylvie will allow it sometimes. I agree- their bellies are so soft and rub-able!

  4. Nice work recovering this week. Adriene is the best, isn’t she? Do you have race plans anytime in the future?

Cuddling with your cats–or me with my dog–there is nothing better. There’s something therapeutic about stroking that soft fur.

    1. Yes, I love Adriene. Her videos have really been helping me.
No race plans for the summer- it’s too hot down here. I’m thinking of different things for the fall and winter, but nothing concrete yet.

  5. Your week off is just what you needed! I bet the back workouts were really helpful! I did am OTF workout Monday, flew to Detroit that afternoon and did another one in the Detroit area on Tuesday night. Then I did one on Thursday when I was back from my trip. I’m visiting my sister now so didn’t pack any running clothes. My workouts will be all the walking we are doing! I’ll be back at it when we get home next week.

  6. Muffin and Sylvie on the same couch? The thruple kitty snuggle is imminent.

I’m just thinking back to a few years ago when a non-running post would have been because of injury. Now your non running weeks are BECAUSE YOU RAN A FRICKIN’ 60 MILER. What a great change!

I know that details of your daughter’s trip to Nola will be strictly Need to Know, but I’m excited for her.

    1. I hope I get details of the trip- there are all sorts of fun things planned, like ghost tours and a dance party. She’s mad because they’re not going to Mardi Gras- yes, I wonder why the band director doesn’t want to take them to Mardi Gras???!! Lol.
True- I definitely remember plenty of weeks where no running meant injury! Much more fun when it’s voluntary.

  7. You deserve a week of recovery — probably a few weeks actually.
How fun to have your son and his fiance coming soon. LOL on the bathroom decor!

    1. Yes, let’s call it “decor!” It’s a new style- dark purple smears all over the place.
I’m sure next week will still be recovery-ish. Especially since we’ll have visitors, and they’ll be my priority.

  8. You deserve every second of downtime, Jenny!

How exciting that your son and future d-i-l will be visiting this week. Have so much fun!

  9. It sounds like a good recovery week for you! How exciting to have your son and his fiance visit soon. I love a good walk and talk, and it sounds like that was the perfect activity for you. Hopefully you continue to feel okay in our back at it whenever you are ready!

  10. How exciting that your son and fiancee will be there soon!! I do miss the walks I take with my son when he is home. He will be home this summer for an internship so we will get to walk together soon!
We are in the midst of decluttering and purging at our house right now. You tend to look at your house and belongings differently after returning home from a long trip! Cleaning is the perfect task during recovery, or pre race taper, to keep busy and be productive 😉
I love how Muffin turned away from Sylvie. We have a lot of that going on at our house too.

  11. It sounds like a low key recovery week was just what you needed! And how exciting that your son and his fiancée are coming to visit!

I volunteered at an ultra yesterday, sweeping the last half of a 50K with 8000 feet of vert! I had to ride along with the driving sweep for the first 15 miles, then me and a friend got out and ran/mostly hiked the last 16 miles which had almost 5000 feet of vert and was super rocky and technical. And it was a hot day so it was pretty tough, but a good training day and I got in some volunteer credit hours I can use towards a future race!

  12. There’s nothing boring about recovery (well, maybe a little, LOL) because it’s part of the training as well as celebrating that 60-mile finish line. Nice job on respecting the recovery! I’m still in awe of those 60 miles…

  13. Not the purple bathroom! Ugh!

I’m glad recovery is going well! Chilling with the kitties seems like the perfect way to do it. I wonder when you will be ready for your next one LOL!

Three yoga sessions in one day is intense!

  14. SYLVIE!! She’s entering the teen years. What are you going to do when both Sylvie and Foxy are total terrors?! (I don’t like to speak of Zelda from eight months until 2.5 years!)

  15. Yikes on the purple bathroom. Hope it all comes clean.

I have a half in 2 weeks. and then I rest.

  16. Glad you got a good rest in the week after your epic adventure. I remember being more sleepy and hungry after my one ultra than I thought was possible, and just as I was getting worried about myself I suddenly felt better! Sylvie is long, how cute!
